Heads up, I'm not being pessimistic or overly negative. It's just my realistic view on how it's going right now.
OpenAI is on fire and is burning alive.
OpenAI has the largest userbase of any AI company (potentially besides Google) and on DevDay, they showed more than 1.2B weekly users of ChatGPT. On Codex, they have around 30M active users by now, and their demand was so high that they had to cut usage limits in half.
OpenAI also is launching products right now that aren't really needed. OpenAI launched Spaces and Maps on DevDay, which isn't anything that new or cool that unlocks a new level of capability of users.
OpenAI also probably has the most number of failed products of any AI company. They had Sora, failed. They had Atlas browser, failed. This waste a LOT of money and time.
OpenAI model's aren't even in the lead. GPT 6 Luna <- Sonnet 5.5. GPT 6.1 Sol <- Opus 5.5. GPT 6 Astra <- Fable 5.1. Their models aren't even the best options in the world right now.
Overall, OpenAI is the world's biggest AI company, that means the most spend, and the most compute strain. Since they already have those problems, they should focus more on a few consumer products and just making a few things the best in the world. Instead of wating SIGNIFICANT energy and money onto products that they aren't even sure of or they aren't confident in adoption.
I would prefer it so much more of instead of Dots or whatever, we just get better UI, UX, features and models withing ChatGPT and Codex.
Keeping it short and simple is the best.
