Yesterday night, I started a React Native + Expo experiment 👀 Even if you know typescript and React, it's a completely different world, in comparison to web development 🤯 And yes, AI can write all the code for you. But is that the right approach? 🤔 I had one big learning: If you start with a new framework, tool, programming language, etc... learn it properly by hand, before you outsource everything to AI. ☝️ AI makes us fast, if we know how things work and can decide quickly if a change can be committed or not. Shipping back boxes is not what we should aim for.

A framework is an intelligence cache. You could waste tokens reinventing the ORM, cache, queues, auth, routing, etc, or you could just pick a world-class framework.
I don’t know if I agree with this take. Good frameworks are intelligence caches. The production of verifiable high-quality code has a cost to it (insert for now caveat). Frameworks can lower this cost as long as they don’t get in the way of agents.

And that's obviously Laravel 🙌

It's so easy to ship a web app 🙌 🔹 You build the app with a framework of your choice 🔹 You buy a domain 🔹 You deploy it where ever you prefer to Instead, shipping a mobile app seems to be a pain 🤯 It might be a skill issue, because I'm coming from years of experience in web development 😅 But the overall process to get an app into the app stores seems way more complex...

App Developers, I need your help! 👋 If you are building an app, do you usually go for a backend-as-a-service, e.g. Supabase or Firebase? Or do you build your own API separately? What would you recommend?

Personal would use Laravel, stable framework, battle tested, greater llm support

Laravel is great! Already use it for some web projects, but never for an API.

Where do you host your backend? -Railway -Vercel -AWS -DigitalOcean

Laravel Cloud is the way to go! By the way, not only for Laravel apps 😎

keep it simple but i always like to have my stuff platform agnostic.

So you'd build your own API?

Ohh, never heard of it! 😅 it's a backend-as-a-service right? Why did you choose Convex over other popular solutions?

This sounds very interesting, thanks for sharing! 👀 by the way, do you build any app right now?

It's great that you can host all kind of apps on Laravel Cloud now! But the naming is actually quite bad. I know where they are coming from, so it absolutely makes sense. But everyone who is not familiar with the Laravel ecosystem thinks it's only for Laravel apps. I'm curious if they already considered a rebranding 🤔 I honestly see a huge chance for Laravel Cloud to become a popular choice for Cloud hosting in general.

the experiment failed the marathon didn’t BrandMyMarathon is over, but i’m still running Lake Garda anyway because that was the dream long before i tried turning it into a business experiment and that’s probably the cleanest ending the project didn’t fund but the lesson was worth it: i tried to avoid overbuilding the product and somehow overbuilt the offer instead too much of all: payment logic auction logic UX polish .. before demand was proven one payment happened but it didn’t prove repeatable demand and that’s exactly what i’m trying to fix with the next thing i’m quietly testing smaller offer faster to market more manual real payment first Lake Garda still happens either way
it’s live before BrandMyMarathon opened: 38 niche sports brands personally mailed 22 contacted through IG 121 visitors 0 sponsors now the auction gets 7 days to answer the only question that matters: will anyone actually pay? if not, i kill the bidding and move the spots to direct sales either way, we’ll know more next tuesday brandmymarathon.com
