Ron DeSantis and the Florida Republicans were bragging from coast to coast about the millions of people moving to Florida and it's true. Millions of people have moved to Florida. This puts a huge strain on our infrastructure and services. It costs money to accommodate this influx of people.
People's property values soared, because people moving here were overpaying for anything that had a roof on it. When your property value goes up, so too does your property tax.
Now when DeSantis is termed out and getting ready to run for President again. Instead of addressing the problems that have been growing for decades. He wants to cut the property taxes that fund the things Florida needs to handle the growing population. So, when he runs for President again. He can say he cut property taxes. The future of Florida be damned.
I get that people are angry, and they think a cut to property taxes will be a windfall for them. But it won't be. Counties and cities will have to make up this deficit. That will come in higher sales tax, another increase in tourist taxes and an increase on rentals, to name a few. The cost of everyday life will go up, and Florida has one of the highest inflation rates in the country already. Cutting property taxes will not make it better.
Ron DeSantis isn't trying to help you. Vote yes on three at your own peril. Don't say you weren't warned.
For the record, I moved to Florida in the early eighties. I don't work for the government. I work in healthcare. And this is not a bot account.
