Racing Game Prototype Update 🌧️🏎️ Rain reacting to gravity, wind and the car’s movement, with droplets naturally flowing across the body. Also featuring some shots from the cinematic editor I’m building for the final game.
Racing Game Prototype Update 🏎️🏝️ Millions of individual grass blades reacting to wind and your driving. Tires physically deforming based on pressure and environmental temperature. AI traffic and NPCs with full ragdoll physics. Car simulation that goes beyond the typical racing game. And one massive Mediterranean island to drive across. Still very much a prototype, but one I aim to put on Steam one day.

Awesome! How did you implement it? I did a similar effect for flat surfaces a long time ago, by just moving particles in 2D space and transforming 3D wind into the plane. But yours looks like a real (3D) deal, like it actually respects the curvature of the car...

Thanks! I bake the car body into six height maps (±X, ±Y, ±Z). Each drop is a 3D point on that body. Every update, gravity, the car acceleration and airflow get projected onto the tangent plane of the texel under the drop, so it follows the curvature.
