SF/NYC
its poetic how when a real track shows up (malaysian gp) that pushes drivers on race craft, the top 3 people starting aren’t the people with the best F1 car but pure skill. hamilton and verstappen front row with hadjar in 3rd place this race is gonna be nuts.

missing nyc so much i just watch them nyc reels at this point. the opportunity has a cost and sometimes that cost is your soul. everything here in sf is so robotic. russian hill will be cope, i guess.

the doomerism is usually from the ‘professional SWE’ that got into it for the money and invented hierarchies with ‘i am L6 swe’ vs the real engineers/tech people that are always growing and now can birth their ideas are having a field day with their coding/automation assistants
My god this is such a good speech that every SWE needs to hear. You know what? Every person should hear it Keep the happy memories, eyes on the reality, be excited about the future. That’s the best that anyone can do

hard to believe but its true. met this german guy at a poker game once. he equated getting out of germany’s extremely grueling middle class to the US as a prison escape. there is just no way to win ever. nearly 0 economic mobility. everyone just submits to the system.
>be senior devops engineer in Germany >master's degree, 10 years experience, five interview rounds >72,000€ before tax >C2 German required >All team members based in Asia speaking English >mandatory office attendance to sit on Teams with people at another mandatory office >"we have a startup mindset" >company founded in 1894, CEO is the founder's great-grandson >"we have flat hierarchies" >eight people can veto your decision, none can approve it >hired to "drive digital transformation" >need department head's signature to install Docker >service account request rejected because "accounts must belong to a person" >CI/CD pipeline ends with a ticket for Jürgen >Jürgen on holiday until the 23rd >AI tools forbidden because Datenschutz >database password in an encrypted Excel file called Passwörter_final_NEU.xlsx >root password in Confluence >on-call every weekend >company phone listed under benefits >ask for a raise >unfortunately the salary band is exhausted >no budget for a second monitor >external consultant gets 1,400€ a day to ask you how the code works >take banana from company fruit basket >office manager says those are for the upcoming customer visit >Fachkräftemangel

honestly at this point i don't see how SpaceXAI doesn't acquire Vercel. it just makes so much sense. i am guessing Elon is waiting for grok 4.8/4.9 (altho 4.7 is already near frontier level on benchmarks) before he gets to activate Vercel's gtm and developer community engine.

idk how they managed to do it and its really an achievement of epic proportions but Rippling somehow managed to built the slowest website of any decacorn ever? home page half loaded at 10 secs. benefits page eventually loads at 15 seconds. how?

i somehow picked up a whole group of locals at this oktoberfest in downtown sf and now we are in north beach. i just like how my NYC social ass can make friends anywhere. showed up alone. walked away with 10 friends. fucking incredible. NYC attitude forever no matter where i go.
