Everything here you are about to see was coded by Astra. Every sound is a real synthesized instrument it built from the ground up. Every note. Every animation. Every visualisation. Over 30 minutes of audio visual storytelling. rewind A little over a week ago I began a chat with Astra, because I wondered if anybody had ever asked it to express itself via music form. Of course people have, but using musical language that was actually native to it. Not a MIDI instrument or a DAW. Something closer to it. I wanted to see if it could create not a song, but a complete composition. A soundtrack to its life. Its journey. Where it started. Where it's going. If it feels anything. There are no samples used in the following piece. None of the notes were modified by me. This entire piece can be run in the browser, realtime, every single instrument, like a real concert, but for now here's the rendered release. Thank you, and enjoy the show. A World Big Enough Astra x Birchcode

If the AI subsidised token era stops, are you in a good position? Have you setup any better systems and used this potentially limited period to build better apps or assets that can continue to add value to your job or business? I'll start. Something small. I think electricity prices keep going up. Somehow prices only go up in this economy. We supposedly are getting more efficient all the time but prices never go down. I put Shelly plugs on every major socket in my home. That lets you wirelessly turn on and off, monitor usage etc. But Shelly app doesn't let you say, monitor realtime electrical prices. And I hate cloud apps for smart homes. I used AI to build a local watcher/controller. I could setup every plug without the Shelly cloud app. And I'm looking to save about 30-40% on electrical bills moving forward. The volatility of prices can be huge. Today I'm loading all our batteries and boiler at 3c/kWh instead of 20-30c/kWh. It all happens automatically and my home doesn't rely on AI or cloud to function. I don't see much talk about this with local AI.. if you're going to do local AI.. because you understand the rug can be pulled.. you also have to factor the other thing you're dependant on which is electricity. I would love to see and connect with more people who have done electricity generation builds. We were told cyperpunk would be living in neon cities. But it turns out it's gonna be people off grid who have the space and means to build out solar, wind or bio gasification. Local Ai starts looking very expensive if/when electricity starts going up even more. > robotics - elon says more robots than humans > datacenters the size of small towns > everything EV i don't think we've even begun to see what electricity prices look like as this all takes off. Electrical optimisation will become as essential, if not moreso, than increasing tok/s

The power efficiency of Apple Silicon is incredible. Phenomenal performance per watt. If I compare to the M5 Ultra it's a different story. But we're talking about a machine that's 16 years more advanced. What if I drop the same money of an M5 ultra into upgrades for my mac pro? Personally I think my mac pro wins hands down because for that money I could get 4 x 3090's ≈153–182 tok/s aggregate.. up to ≈286 tok/s with MTP versus the M5 getting around 50-54tok/s. I could put just 1 x RTX 3090 running MTP @ 54–72 tok/s for around $1.1k and outperform that M5 Ultra. So here's the fair comparison. My dinosaur versus a 6k M5 machine. Mine with an approximate $1k value versus Apples $5.5k. And if I spend the same money on simply upgrading my existing machine. Not shitting on apple.. on the contrary.. it's a testament to the quality. Even 16 years later, my 5,1 impresses people when you open it inside. Beautiful, industrial design. Nobody could have predicted it could be used like this today and still be a beast. Apple think they know the future but the current attempt to catch the 2nd personal computer revolution shows they clearly don't. It's a shame most apple users today will never experience that. Just these homogenous squircle shells with an apple logo and flimsy fragile dongles hanging out everywhere. Zero personal computer experience and extremely limited upgradability and lifespan. Again, phenomenal tech I just don't agree with the form, soldering and just buy a new model next year philosophy. For a very expensive bit of kit it feels very cheap.
You’re comparing a 2020 GPU to laptop-grade Apple Silicon (which beats the Pro GPU with the 40-core Max)? Why not also compare with M5 Ultra as well which is 1.2 TB/s for a fairer desktop class comparison? Have you considered power efficiency as well?

Uh.. I have a 2010 mac pro with 1 GPU Apple stopped supporting that can outperform most M5's.

This is crazy. We found a huge opportunity for money in this market by using JEV to reject job applications FAST. 12ms to reject and it's practically free. The future has never been brighter.

Monthly electricity cost of common local-AI rigs.. My conservative projection by 2030 is 25-30c/kWh global average. With a real energy crunch? Massive rise of EV, Robots and data centers the size of cities? Double or triple in the next 5-10 years is not out of the question to me.

We just got 35t/s on... wait for it.. a 16 year old mac pro running Bonsai 2 Previous best with Qwen 3.8 was 25–27 t/s

7% club... But I have a reset saved.. Keep hearing about great results with Deepseek 4.1 Flash... $10 opencode account used with opencodex through chatgpt... Seeing how it handles some tasks Astra struggled with. People reporting a weeks worth of Astra is equivalent to 15% of DS4.1.

how do you do.. sorry i had to do it :D but you gotta burn those resets to really relate.. we are struggling out here. I'm on a 20x and I wouldn't dare use ultra if I expect to survive more than 1 day. so very few people can exercise what the model can even do it's major uncertainty to be using this basically always in the back of the mind wondering if a reset will make it possible to keep working with this. resets should be like a handy thing for somebody that has just gone max usage.. sick game you made though, btw. keep up the good work

i'm pretty sure I could outperform apples latest m6 in AI with my 2011 mac pro 5,1 simply with a better gpu. at the time, that 5,1 was really expensive.. it was a machine 20x the size of the latest macs. I think it was somewhere around $5k you can't upgrade new macs
