I keep getting asked why Yemen’s military has not activated the other fronts against the Houthis. I spoke to @timourazhari from @Reuters about this yesterday. The problem is not simply opening another front. Anti-Houthi forces remain deeply fractured, with different chains of command, political loyalties and outside backers. As I told Reuters, “Many anti-Houthi forces are still not organised or prepared for the kind of sustained offensive required to push back a disciplined Houthi military force. And they are being tested right now, as the Houthis apply pressure across several fronts at once.” That helps explain why, even as the battle for Taiz intensifies, several other fronts remain largely quiet. reuters.com/world/asia-pacif…

Yesterday, the Houthis said they did not intend to enter Taiz city or cut the main road to Aden. Yet overnight, they have been fighting furiously to capture the city’s main western outlet via Jabal Han. Yemen’s National Army 22nd Brigade has mobilized T-55 tanks to push back the Houthi assault. maps.app.goo.gl/MUX78mcJX9fi…

#FactCheck: @TawakkolKarman did not call on the people of Taiz city to surrenderً to the Houthis. In fact, she said the opposite. You can watch her full speech here on @BelqeesTV.

The conundrum many Yemenis in the West now face is that some people such as @SammyPickles96 and others who are deeply passionate about Gaza have translated their support for Palestinians into almost unquestioning support for the Houthis because of the group’s position on Gaza. As a result, being anti-Houthi is sometimes treated as if it means being anti-Palestinian, while criticism of the Houthis is dismissed by some pro-Iran, “Axis of Resistance” supporters. Yemenis should not have to choose between supporting Palestinian rights and opposing the Houthis. Those are two separate positions.

Taiz #SITREP | The Houthis launched another pre-dawn attack on Jabal Han, the mountain overlooking the main highway linking Taiz city with Aden via Al Turbah. Once again, the apparent objective was to disrupt the main ground line of communication (GLOC) into Taiz. The attack failed, with defending forces pushing the Houthis back this morning with close air support. The latest wave of intense, multi-front fighting in Taiz has now entered its third day. Both sides appear determined to sustain the battle, but so far the homeland defenders around Taiz city are holding their ground. Elsewhere across the governorate, the Taiz National Army Axis @axistaiz reported 71 precision strikes against Houthi concentrations, assault formations and reinforcements in Al-Aqrud, Sami‘, Al-Ahkum, Al-Akbush, Jabal Rasin, Jabal Jirdad, Bani Umar, Bani Bakari, Al-Ka‘awish and Al-Athawir. According to the military, the strikes destroyed several Houthi transport and support vehicles and inflicted personnel losses, while ground fighting continues across multiple fronts.

Taiz SITREP | The Houthis are throwing everything they can into the battle for Taiz. Locals captured photos showing Houthi-controlled police vehicles and personnel from Sa’dah infiltrated Salaf village in Sami‘ District, south of Taiz. The deployment shows the scale of the Houthi effort to capture Taiz, but also suggests their manpower and resources are being stretched across an expanding war. The Sa’dah contingent was targeted shortly afterward in drone strikes.

Tarek Saleh to His Forces: Remain Patient, Rebuild and Prepare for the Next Orders In line with @BashaReport’s reporting on the future of the National Resistance @nrfyemen Forces’ and their losses on the West Coast, Presidential Leadership Council member and National Resistance Forces commander Lt. Gen. Tariq Saleh @tarikyemen has issued an open letter to his forces acknowledging that the recent battle did not go as planned and calling on his fighters to regroup. Saleh described the fighting as “one of the largest and fiercest battles to restore the republic,” but acknowledged that its outcome was “contrary to what had been hoped for and planned.” Addressing what he called the “bitterness of the moment” and the “weight of the wounds,” Saleh told his forces that the setback was “only one round in the battle to restore the republic and dignity, and by no means the end.” He paid tribute to those killed from the Republican Guards, Tihama Resistance Brigades, Giants Brigades and National Shield Forces, saying their blood “will not go in vain.” Most significantly, Saleh called on his forces to “heal the wounds and reorganize the ranks with a new spirit,” urging them to remain patient, rebuild and prepare to carry out the next orders.
Regarding the future of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council member and National Resistance Forces @nrfyemen commander Tareq Saleh @tarikyemen, four regional sources tell @BashaReport that Saleh will continue to serve in both capacities. More importantly, developments since the fall of Mocha show that the NRF has moved beyond simply reorganizing and redeploying and has re-engaged the Houthis in active ground and drone operations. After withdrawing from the West Coast, surviving NRF formations were redistributed across the Taiz-Lahj approaches. Brigade 42 Infantry of the NRF’s 4th Division was committed to close-range fighting on Jabal Jirdad and Rasin, south of Taiz, in support of the Taiz Axis, where four NRF personnel were reported killed, while NRF military media claimed 15 Houthi fighters killed. Brigade 35 Infantry of the 3rd NRF Division was separately deployed around al-Mansurah/al-Mudarabah, operating alongside local tribes, with NRF elements also reported on the Haifan and Uraybim fronts. At the same time, NRF drone units resumed strikes against Houthi concentrations, technical vehicles and positions in al-Wazi’iyah, including Houthi forces facing the Giants 5th Division, with NRF military media subsequently releasing additional footage indicating that the strike campaign continued. The military activity has been accompanied by institutional rebuilding. Saleh has continued coordinating with @modgovksa Saudi Joint Forces Command in Riyadh, reorganizing surviving formations and personally following the NRF’s casualty burden, including ordering enhanced treatment and overseas medical evacuation for seriously wounded personnel from the recent West Coast battles. NRF military-media director Abdulnasser al-Mamlouh has meanwhile publicly argued that the loss of the West Coast did not destroy the force, saying the NRF remains part of the Yemeni armed forces and is preparing for what he described as a “decisive battle.” The post-Mocha picture emerging from both our regional sources and NRF reporting is therefore one of continuity, reorganization and renewed combat activity: Saleh remains in command and on the PLC, while identifiable NRF formations have already returned to the battlefield across the Rasin-Jirdad, al-Mansurah, Haifan-Uraybim and al-Wazi’iyah axes. piped.video/watch?v=10ck0Lvg…

Calling Taiz your “ancestral home” while reducing its people to a Saudi “foothold” is quite something. Taizis have resisted the Houthis for more than a decade. They are fighting for their homes, their freedom and their right not to live under Houthi rule. They have agency. Erasing them to turn Taiz into a story about Saudi Arabia is not analysis. It is propaganda.
Major developments in Taiz, a strategic frontline connecting Yemen's north, south, & western coast. If Ansarallah takes Taiz, including Al-Turbah, Saudi loses a critical foothold & the main corridor linking Taiz to Aden. Taiz is also my ancestral home, so I'm watching closely.

Following a series of @FBI arrests of U.S. citizens accused of providing “material support” to Ansar Allah (Houthis) in Yemen, it is worth looking at what U.S. law actually says. The clearest statutory provision cited by @TheJusticeDept for providing material support to a @USTreasury designated Foreign Terrorist Organization is 18 U.S.C. § 2339B. It prohibits knowingly providing “material support or resources” to a designated FTO. Under § 2339A, that definition includes property or services such as money, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, personnel and transportation.

From Aden via @aselsaqladi, #Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council member and @SouthArmed @alamalikah @alhezammedia commander Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman al-Muharrami, @AbuZar3a, convened a senior military meeting in Aden on Friday to review battlefield developments and ordered forces to raise combat readiness to the highest level. The meeting reviewed ongoing operations, particularly the fighting in al-Subayha, Taiz and Kahboub near Bab al-Mandab, and discussed military plans to counter further Houthi advances. Al-Muharrami also ordered greater vigilance along front lines and stronger operational coordination among the different military formations. The meeting included Joint Operations Chief Maj. Gen. Saleh Ali Hassan, 7th Division commander Brig. Gen. Ali Hassan al-Jahouri, and other senior officers.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | 2 October 2026 | The Yemen war is now centered on Taiz. For a second consecutive day, heavy fighting continued across multiple fronts in Taiz, with Yemeni government forces reporting that they had contained Houthi attacks while receiving intensive air support. The fighting stretches from the northern and eastern approaches to Taiz city through the western countryside and south toward Sami’, al-Aqrud, al-Wazi’iyah and Jabal Rasin. According to the Taiz Axis @axistaiz Media Center, heavy fighting on the northern front involved artillery, tanks and direct fire. Government forces reported damaging a Houthi artillery piece and engaging a tank. Northeast of the city, clashes were reported around al-Hamad Hospital, while Houthi concentrations at the Central Security Base and Tabbat Hamid were targeted. Two Houthi tanks positioned at al-Arsum and al-Ma’azzah were also engaged. On the eastern front, government forces reported direct hits against two armored vehicles near Farzat Sana’a. Fighting also remained intense across the western countryside, particularly al-Ahtoub, al-Ashruh and al-Kadhahah. Government drones struck Houthi vehicles in al-Kadhahah, reportedly destroying one technical and disabling another. Army artillery targeted Houthi guns around Tabbat al-Qarn and behind al-Hamra, while a 120mm mortar was used against a vehicle in al-Ashruh. On the al-Dhabab front, government forces used tank fire against Houthi concentrations around Tabbat al-Qarn and al-Khalwah, while machine-gun fire targeted personnel and a motorcycle along 50th Street. In Hadharan, government forces reported engaging a Houthi BMP with an 82mm mortar. Government forces also reported strikes against Houthi positions at Tabbat al-Shumairi on the Ghurab front. South of Taiz, heavy fighting continued around Sami’ and al-Aqrud with air support. Airstrikes were also reported against Houthi positions, concentrations, reinforcements and weapons storage sites across al-Sittin, al-Dhabab, al-Ashruh, Humair, Sami’, al-Kadhahah, al-Aqrud and al-Wazi’iyah. The Yemeni Armed Forces Media Center @Yem_army_media separately reported that aircraft struck Houthi weapons and supply vehicles moving toward Jabal Rasin in al-Wazi’iyah. At the national level, the Armed Forces claimed 474 strikes and precision engagements during the past 24 hours, using combat aircraft, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers. Military spokesman Col. Majed al-Nuzaili @spokespersonyem said operations extended from southern Haradh and the coast through Kitaf, al-Jawf, Ma’rib, al-Bayda, Lahj, Sana’a and Saada, but with the main operational concentration on Taiz. The military further claimed that the 24-hour operations killed or wounded 1,540 Houthi personnel, most of them on the Taiz fronts, and destroyed or disabled 216 military vehicles, weapons systems or other capabilities. These casualty and equipment figures are claims by the Yemeni Armed Forces and have not been independently verified. The battle is also increasingly becoming a mobilization effort. Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan praised what he described as a broad public and official response to the general mobilization order, including community initiatives and support convoys for the army and Popular Resistance. During a visit to al-Turbah, Shamsan stressed the need to secure the city and surrounding districts, protect government institutions and services, and strengthen the internal security front against infiltration and disinformation. Outside Taiz, activity continues on the Ma’rib front. The Third Military Region Command (MRC) released footage that it said showed the destruction of a Houthi 23mm gun, while field sources reported that government forces intercepted three Houthi one-way attack drones over the al-Kassarah front northwest of Ma’rib.
War in #Yemen #SITREP | The battle for Taiz appears to be entering a more active phase, with mounting indications that the Houthis are making a renewed push against government positions around the city and across the wider western Taiz theater. Heavy, intermittent clashes are reported on the Kalabah front east of Taiz city, while Houthi forces reportedly fired 23 mortar rounds at residential villages in the Al-Dhabab area west of the city from positions around Al-Ruba’i. The fighting comes as government forces report an expanding campaign against Houthi personnel, artillery, vehicles and other military assets across Taiz. The Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman @spokespersonyem said government forces conducted eight precision strikes against Houthi positions and equipment, including three artillery batteries on the Al-Wazi’iyah front. The @Yem_army_media also claimed the destruction of a mobile air-defense system in the Mocha area that it says was developed with assistance from Iranian IRGC experts. Other strikes reportedly targeted Houthi commanders and personnel around Al-Mansurah and the Bab al-Mandab area. Government drone footage released alongside the statements shows UAV strikes against Houthi personnel concentrations and vehicles across several fronts. The Armed Forces separately claimed it has conducted 468 targeting operations against Houthi personnel and equipment across the eastern, Al-Bayda and Al-Mansurah/Al-Wazi’iyah fronts, claiming hundreds of Houthi casualties and the destruction of military vehicles and equipment. These figures remain government claims and should be treated as such pending independent verification. The widening military activity around Taiz is occurring alongside a broader government mobilization. In Aden, Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Taher al-Aqili @generalalaqili chaired a military meeting on implementing PLC Chairman Rashad al-Alimi @PresidentRashad’s directives for “general mobilization” and “general call-up.” Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Basr Salem separately met committees established by the @YemenMOD to determine how manpower, material resources and government institutions will be organized under the mobilization order. Taiz authorities are moving in the same direction. The governorate’s Supreme Emergency Committee, chaired by Governor Nabil Shamsan and attended by @axistaiz Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz al-Majidi, approved initial measures to implement the National Defense Council’s decisions and translate the general mobilization order into an institutional framework. Officials also reviewed combat readiness across the governorate’s fronts and preparations for displacement and humanitarian requirements if fighting expands. Outside Taiz, government forces said they struck and destroyed weapons storage facilities in eastern Sa’ada containing large quantities of ammunition, including anti-tank guided missiles and artillery shells.
