My heart breaks for Lindsay Clancy. I hate that it took a tragedy like this to talk about women's mental health and postpartum depression. Too often, it is swept under the rug.  Our healthcare system has failed women. Many women are given the baby, told good luck, and thrown out on the street. These are real issues that impact tons of new moms. And it can lead to psychosis that gets worse with each child. The only way it changes is by addressing a healthcare system that is overwhelmed and unaccessible.

No, Lindsay Clancy was working with doctors before she murdered her children. She tried 30 different psychiatric medications leading up to it. The problem isn’t that she was ignored by our mental healthcare system, it’s that our mental healthcare system is broken for everyone.

She wasn’t on 30 different medications. She was prescribed less than 15 different medications. It was her choice what she took and didn’t take, none of it was mandated. She’s a trained nurse. She is agency over her own body.
