🚨EXCL Interview with Nigel Farage – Reveals he has now been interviewed parliament’s standards watchdog over the £5 million gift from Christopher Harborne – Offers three reasons for Reform's dip in the polls but is bullish. “The narrative that Reform has peaked? No, it’s troughed.” – Said he thought the reaction to the £72m in donations would be “far worse” and that “people were quite impressed” – Describes role of George Cottrell as “the same as it’s always been — an adjunct” who “dips in”. Would he get a No10 pass? “I never thought of that. But someone’s got to organise the social life” – Concedes “some bitterness” between Robert Jenrick and Zia Yusuf but praises them both. “Trump had a Kennedy and an Elon next to him”

NEW: The Tory deputy leader has promised to reverse any step Labour takes to move Britain closer to the EU if his party regains power. Alex Burghart says the “reset” in UK–EU relations begun under Starmer and continued by Burnham has been “disastrous” and “extraordinary”. It means the Tories will rip up - Agrifoods agreement - Youth free movement deal - UK’s return to Erasmus - EU’s 12-year UK fishing access - Moves to link carbon trading schemes (All expected to be finalised and confirmed at the summit later this year) Burnham’s reopening of the Brexit debate has raised the question of where the Tories will position themselves Some (eg @George_Osborne) have warned the Tories not to promise to overturn Labour moves as it’ll see the party painted as anti-business at the next election. But the Tory position is now clear: The EU-UK relationship will revert to 2024 position if they win back power. I don't care about the colour of someone's skin or whether they can trace their ancestors back to before the Norman Conquest. I do care about whether or not they love this country and want what's in its best interests. If your first loyalty is to Gaza or Pakistan, then you should be nowhere near British politics.

I agree 💯% with @TerraOrBust on this. 👇
On my way to Birmingham for the Conservative conference, as a voter and campaigner who wants to support the Conservative party, but is not ignoring the failures and disappointment. With Brexit back in the headlights and headlines, I will be looking for the party to be very clear what its position is - no more division on this key matter. The people were asked, the people decided. The party needs to be 100% behind this. If we are really in the run up to a May 2027 general election, then there must be no ambiguity about the party position - and if as a party they agree with Reform on this matter, then the confidence to say so. It is fine for parties to agree on things.

🇦🇹 A watershed moment. The Austrian parliament held a reasoned debate on gender identity, child safeguarding and women's rights. Including a talk from a mum whose ROGD child was removed from her care. This speech from Austrian Family Minister @claudiabauer_at gives hope. Brilliant organising @AthenaForumEU @el_nagashi
@GudrunKugler @betti_reiter @EGG_OE Fotos: @ChristianHoegl

Love this erudite about readable essay by @drianpace - our @acadofideas weekend read - asking 'can we separate art from the artist?' The answer is not a simple yes or no but the present confusion over art and the artist has serious consequences. How often are great art works 'cancelled' or demonised because contemporary activism finds the artists views/biography unpalatable? As Ian writes: "The danger today is not that we know too little about artists, but that we sometimes know too much. As a result, the work often disappears behind the biography, or at best becomes a footnote to it." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Why we need Battle of Ideas festival 2026 - co-convenors, Battle of Ideas festival @MaximumCities & @Ella_M_Whelan Amid the hope-drenched rhetoric of our new prime minister, Andy Burnham, is an acknowledgment: for far too many, Britain isn’t working. We need to debate if government can fix it – or can we? ‘Shattered’, ‘broken’, ‘in managed decline’. Whatever the term used, the exasperating everyday experience of millions is of a country that fails to function as expected. This is not simply about failing to build homes, airports or reservoirs, tackle crime or get to grips with an out-of-control welfare system. More fundamentally, patience is wearing paper thin with a political class that appears to be not just incompetent but positively indifferent to the needs and aspirations of its citizens. Consequently, a core question running through this festival is the future of the social contract: what becomes of that foundational relationship between state and citizen when the reciprocal obligations that bind society together seem on the point of collapse? open.substack.com/pub/claire…

Today, politics stops. My family home address was published deliberately by a Labour Councillor, and I am absolutely furious that this line has been crossed. Cllr Gavin Callaghan published my home address knowing full well my family live there, including my 86-year-old heavily disabled grandmother. We are living in a country where Reform UK representatives such as Ann Widdecombe were murdered in a targeted attack, and a man has now been charged with preparing terrorist acts targeting Nigel Farage. Political security is not some abstract concern anymore. It is real. I want to thank the Chief Executive, Monitoring Officer, Essex Police and Cllr Andy Barnes for rallying around me and my family today. Whatever political differences exist, this has gone beyond politics. My home, my family and their safety are NOT fair game. So Gavin Callaghan should understand this very clearly… Today you crossed the line. I will pursue every lawful route available to hold you accountable, and I will not rest politically until residents have the chance to judge your conduct for themselves. You wanted to intimidate me? You have achieved the complete opposite. You have AWAKENED the lion.

This is quite depressing. Torsten's a bright guy. He knows the Tories aren't going to scrap the state pension. He knows the Reform-leaning think tank report he cites below didn't recommend that either. But he obviously feels he has to play the game.

A new hate movement is growing and it claims to be radical. It is in Miliband's speeches. It is in the Green Party's anti-Zionism. It is in Unite's attempts to exclude Jews from tomorrow's Cable Street commemorations. It is in the killings at Heaton Park, the stabbings at Golders Green, and the demands for boycotts and sanctions. The new Blackshirts are trying to isolate Jews and anyone who would stand with Israel. So it's more important than ever for allies to show themselves. Today we are outside the Green Party conference to do just that.
