Present: Stealth Past: CEO & Co-founder @LightOnIO, founded: 2016, IPO: 2024 Rocket Scientist, Nuclear Engineer

🚨Here is an incredible achievement, @LightOnIO console that you can try for free at LightOn.ai is currently a production environment that just reach *top 5* 🏆 among research experiments (none in prod) in one of the most grueling deep research (RAG on steroids) benchmark out there: where it needs to: 🤯answer 800 super complex questions 💫requiring several argentic turns 📚on a collection of 100,000 documents. LightOn Console answers them in about 9 turns when the top 1 entry wastes 209 turns on average. Yes you read that right, the top 1 of the leaderboard requires x23 times more inference. LightOn console is not just good, it saves money and time when you have a large collection of documents. Most humans would not come close to these numbers in terms of accuracy and turns. It is unbelievable and it is in Production for you test at LightOn.ai At top 12, they show LightOn's tech is competitive with an old open source LLM. Can't wait to see what LightOn Console does with @Kimi_Moonshot Kimi 3 or @Zai_org GLM 5.2 or with closed APIs of @OpenAI chatGPT 5.6, @AnthropicAI Fable 5 or @SpacexAI @grok !

Oui.
I think AI is forcing Software Engineering to turn into a real engineering field. ME is a 100+ year old field of study. Computers—FEA, CFD, CAD—forced us away from teaching shoveling techniques to teaching theory of where to dig about the time Software Engineering was born.

Christian, your blog entry should have been called "The New Mapmakers"/"Les Nouveaux Cartographes". I wrote a somewhat similar blog entry 13 years ago and finished the blog entry with: "The world got bigger" Quite surprinsingly, Terry Tao was one the people who opened the path then. I am sure he will also lead this new round when he is over this new period. nuit-blanche.blogspot.com/20…
Reading all those recent beautiful essays by Terry Tao, Kevin Buzzard and @wtgowers, I could not resist, but write up my deeply personal perspective on how I perceive and see things: docs.google.com/document/d/e…

And they fall....
In my 25 years in electrical engineering and digital signal processing, the halo engineers making the biggest bank have been HDL designers. They are extremely skilled and very hard to find. The best are PhD’s in communications. Opus can turn the English language into HDL, refactor your problem to one solvable by HDL, and optimize the architecture . I’m going to build a LLM benchmark based on HDL quality. Claude and I started on a build yesterday and it estimated that we could finish sometime around when the Vivado license expires in 59 days. We finished it an hour ago. Built, tested, simulated fake data, confirmed on real signals. In one day. In one day. My best estimate for a team of 2 PhD’s for this effort: 6-8 months. This is why premium Tokens won’t be $200/month forever.

A combinaison of those is not either.
Sam Altman is right. Shorter version: FFN(x) = W₂ · σ(W₁x + b₁) + b₂ Is not conscious. Is not a person. Is not a religion. Does not have a soul. Does not have feelings. Does not feel pain.

The diameter of the projectile is only 30mm, but the kinetic energy is approx. 140,000-160,000 foot-pounds. Swiss cheese anyone?

It was crazy then (but was so central to the survival of the Shuttle program) and is still crazy now.

The tower can supply 134 MW of heat at 85°C to the city district heating network, which is about 1TWh per year or about 100 000 homes (or 5% homes in Paris). This assumes a hot-water network that can accomodate 130MW; today the network is small and mostly steam, so the realistic first step is a local 50 MW loop. About five floors can be liberated as a result.

To the multiple current owners that - from what I heard - are fighting each other: it’ll be more profitable than having offices! Sell the heat to nearby buildings during the winter. (also, can the asbestos be tolerated in such a setup?)

Yes, Ty-rap FTW!
Please don't believe this slop. SpaceX does a lot of incredible stuff, but "using zipties" isn't one of them. We've been using zip ties on spacecraft for decades. In fact, zip-ties, introduced in 1958, were originally called "Ty-Rap" and were developed specifically for aircraft and spacecraft. They were invented by Maurus Logan after visiting a Boeing plant and seeing how bloody the workers hands were from using string tie. It's literally in the NASA standards for cable and wire harness assemblies, which is NASA Std. 87394. Viewable here: standards.nasa.gov/standard/…
