sloppy, unethical, and potentially a professional and legal disaster for Michael
Michael Tracey published what he said was the ID of "Jane Doe" in the Cornell case. Then he took it down, claiming it was out of principle.
What he didn't admit is that he mistook info on a sketchy site for official NY court records. Let's take a look at what actually happened.
![An archived copy of Michael Tracey's original Substack post includes a screenshot from "eCourt Records" and the commentary: "It's [name redacted]. Don't blame me -- the New York Court System just posted it. Seemingly inadvertently. Oh well."](/t/6eb23b644d9dc9f2adc2f2f8e1cda413cc56fe51c49d8259/pic/orig/media%2FHTpURr5WEAAFE-Z.jpg)
ALT An archived copy of Michael Tracey's original Substack post includes a screenshot from "eCourt Records" and the commentary: "It's [name redacted]. Don't blame me -- the New York Court System just posted it. Seemingly inadvertently. Oh well."
ALT Screenshot of Michael Tracey's post on Substack titled "Note on Jane Doe." It reads: "After identifying Jane Doe earlier tonight, I have now removed the information I published. Why? Because the principle has been served: to underscore that permanently anonymizing litigants who make sensational, spectacular, reputation-destroying claims about others â so long as they can self-declare some form of victimization â cannot be countenanced. Itâs destructive, and an egregious abuse of the legal system by huckster plaintiffâs lawyers. This practice has to end. Lawyers who seek to monetize this sleazy tactic should have to think A LOT HARDER about the claims theyâre willing to throw out into the public domain, using impressionable clients who may not even know what theyâre getting themselves into. So why have I now removed her information? Because I donât believe sheâs the main âvillainâ here."

What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.
Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history â we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.
We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. â and all our extraordinary brands â to remain in the spotlight.
We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special â giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance.
I couldnât be more excited about what weâre going to build together.

Tonight, I signed an executive order appointing Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor in the Cornell sexual assault case.
New information has raised serious questions about how this case was handled, and Iâve lost faith in the Tompkins County DAâs ability to fairly oversee it.
The young woman at the center of this case deserves to know that every fact will be examined and justice pursued.
