Official Digital Postcode Platform of Nigeria @NipostNgn

Everyone in Nigeria has a location. Now every location has a postcode. Today, NIPOST launches the National Digital Postcode System, and I’m speaking to you from the heart of it: our new GIS lab, where every corner of Nigeria is being mapped and coded. No more “turn left after the blue gate.” Your postcode connects you to deliveries, e-commerce, emergency services, banking and government services, wherever you are. After a successful pilot in Abuja, it’s now live nationwide. Know your postcode: postcode.gov.ng Proud to lead the team building infrastructure that puts every Nigerian on the map. My deepest gratitude to President @officialasiwajubat for his vision and support under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and to the Hon. Minister @bosuntijani , whose leadership in building Nigeria’s digital economy made this possible. Thank you to the NIPOST @nipostngn family, our partners, and every Nigerian who joined the exercise . This is national infrastructure built by Nigerians, for Nigerians. #KnowYourPostcode #NIPOST #DigitalPostcode #NigeriaAt66 #DigitalNigeria IndependenceDay

While NIPOST is currently working in the postcode integration with Google map for navigation, you may still navigate on the NIPOST postcode platforms either via the web page postcode.gov.ng or the Postcode App. Watch my attached video. Once you receive the postcode of any location, use the search engine to search for the postcode and then click "direction" for you to start navigating. It will calculate even the time of arrival either by driving or trekking just like Google map. It is simple. Spread the news! @tola_odeyemi @bosuntijani @DrJoeAbah

"Some moments you plan for. Some moments you fight for. Yesterday, Nigeria launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System. By the end of launch day, Nigerians had made almost 900,000 postcode requests, with a 99.8% success rate. These are the people who carried this when it was only an idea. Through the long nights, the setbacks, the doubts, and the meetings that went nowhere, they kept building. NIPOST is in the middle of reform, and reform is hard, quiet work. It doesn’t give you many days to stop and celebrate. Today is one of those days. To every member of the NIPOST & Postcode team: this is your victory. You didn’t only build a system. You gave every Nigerian home, business and community an address that can be found, served and counted. Thank you for believing when it was hardest to believe. This is only the beginning. In Nigeria, staying focused on long-term foundations can be tough, but few things are more rewarding. Our people deserve that investment. What this developer is building with the new postcode system shows what Nigerians can do when those foundations are in place. This government is committed to laying many more. To our builders: the postcode is yours to build on. What will you create?
moniepoint and opay had to send someone to my house just to confirm i live there. nigeria just launched @Postcode_ng + a raw nipost api
so i built the Veriadd, thing banks/fintech should have called instead of a field agent 🧵……

It is important someone educate Cable here. First. I'm doing this as someone who was part of the GIS mapping of all building in Nigeria with the National Population Commission. Secondly, as someone who was part of the NIPOST Postcode Validation. 1. Nigeria has a problem with address system. When collecting the attribute of these buildings, address is one of the major requirements. 2. To solve this problem, the address system were classified into two: Standard or Regular address and Description or irregular address. 3. Where you have a proper standard address system such as No 1 Asiwaju Oladimeji Street, Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti, the data collector will use the appropriate column to fill in the address of the house. 4. In the case of irregular or descriptive address, the data collector will either use the name of the owner of the property such as Asiwaju Oladimeji House, Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti. Or in some cases, they cab use the "alias" if the person is well popular with that alias in that environment. In some instances, they can use a prominent features close to the property to provide a descriptive address.. for instance, you might see something like "A blue building, opposite RCCG, Ajilosun Ado Ekiti" 5. Thus cable is completely wrong here to have concluded that the names of homeowners were exposed. They ought to have reached out and seek clarification. 6. Lastly, the address system is challenge that the Federal Government, State Government and Local Government most especially must resolved and they can do that now by leveraging on the postcode system. By the way, on the postcode platform, you may edit your address and submit for correction. Thanks.

During ground data collection, we collected standard or informal addresses of buildings. So for informal addresses, they are often recorded as they’re popularly described by locals (owners name are often mentioned especially in the Northern areas). So names only appear in addresses in specific locations because there’s no other way the community and even the occupants know how to describe the house.

We’ve agreed that every Nigerian deserves to be found but not everyone has a smartphone, access to the internet, or someone to show them how to find their postcode. This is where we can help one another. Visit postcode.gov.ng to find and save your building’s postcode. Then, if you can, help three people find theirs. It could be your parents, a neighbour, a nearby trader, or someone who just needs a little guidance. Ask their permission, help them identify the correct building, and show them how to save or write down the postcode. If they can, encourage them to spread the word, and help someone else too. As we build a more connected Nigeria, each of us can help someone take that next step. This is a simple act of neighbourliness. Share your experience with me, without revealing anyone’s address or personal details. NOTE: * Participation is voluntary, assistance is free, and taking part does not make anyone a government or @NipostNgn representative. *Also please respect people’s privacy and do not collect or keep their personal information. #IKnowMyPostcode

A code is unique to a building. To get yours: 1. Be in, or near, the building; 2. Ensure the GPS/full location service on your device is ON; then 3. Open the app, or visit postcode.gov.ng/find 4. The area is scanned. 5. Locate & click on your place on the scan to see its code.

the blue gate era ending is actually huge for anyone who sells stuff online. finally customers can just give me a code instead of describing their building for ten minutes.

I think so many measures were considered when implementing the postcode and also for security reasons, in sense that you can be able to decode the location mere looking at the codes. It consists of the state, local government and the building number
