I was in Burley to tour the new Simply Hope facility under construction and stop by their annual Teen Hope Carnival. Simply Hope started in 2015, when one local family nearly lost their son to an overdose. Instead of moving on, the founders decided to give back to their community and make sure other families would not face the same crisis alone. Today they run Idaho's first Safe Teen Assessment Center, providing early intervention, case management, counseling referrals, and wraparound support for youth and families. Interestingly, Simply Hope is also a good example of where Idaho's tobacco settlement money goes. The Millennium Fund is built from the settlement the Office of Attorney General works to secure for Idaho, and Simply Hope is one of the organizations it has helped fund. Their new building is what those dollars become: a place where a family in crisis finds help in time.

Great working lunch in the Magic Valley with Twin Falls Mayor Jason Brown, Sheriff Jack Johnson, Rep. Clint Hostetler, Councilwoman Cherie Vollmer, and Chance Requa. A big thank you as well to Senate Pro Tem Kelly Anthon, Commissioner Brent Reinke, Rep. Grayson Stone, and Casey Swensen, who joined us later in the afternoon. The conversation was so productive that we completely forgot to get a picture, so I owe all four of them a photo next time I'm in town. We talked about what they are hearing from their communities, what law enforcement is seeing on the ground, and how my office works with state and local officials.

People of faith don't leave their beliefs at home when they go to work. COVID forced too many Americans to choose between their conscience and their paycheck. A medical center employee asked for a religious accommodation from her employer's nasal-swab testing requirement and even offered another way to get tested. Instead her employer fired her. The Ninth Circuit then ruled her belief wasn't religious at all, as if judges get to decide what counts as faith. I'm leading 18 states in asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take this case and make clear that federal law protects every sincere religious belief in the workplace.

Our ICAC Unit helped secure a 22-year sentence for a man in Latah County. Judge Marshall ordered seven years fixed, followed by 15 years indeterminate. Protecting children in Idaho from predators is one of our office’s highest priorities. We will keep working to hold offenders accountable and keep them out of our communities.

A federal court dismissed a daycare’s lawsuit challenging Idaho’s protection for families who make their own medical decisions, including decisions about vaccines. Daycares can share their views, but they can't turn a child away over a parent's medical decision.

It was a privilege to speak at the Idaho Association of Counties annual conference in Boise about the partnerships my office has with county officials across the state, from sheriffs and county prosecutors to commissioners, clerks, and others. We work together on all sorts of issues to keep Idaho communities safe and strong. It was also great to catch up with friends from around the state. Grateful for their service and proud to keep working alongside them.

I'm co-leading a coalition of states with @AGJamesUthmeier, asking the Supreme Court to reverse a Ninth Circuit ruling that says parents can't even challenge a Washington state law letting runaway children receive irreversible gender transition procedures without their parents' knowledge. Idaho families living just miles from the Washington state line are directly exposed. A child who crosses that border can be put on this path while parents are kept in the dark. The Ninth Circuit's ruling also binds federal courts in Idaho and every other state in the circuit. If it stands, parents across the West lose their day in court.

Day two of my north Idaho trip took me from one end of Idaho's timber cycle to the other. In Moscow, I visited the University of Idaho nursery, where seedlings are grown to replant Idaho's forests. In Lewiston, I toured the Idaho Forest Group mill, where trees planted decades ago become lumber that builds homes across the country. Serving on the Idaho State Land Board, it matters to get out of the office and hear from the people doing this work. Healthy forests and strong rural economies depend on the state, our universities, private industry, and our federal partners finding ways to work together.

I stood with other state AGs to stop New York from imposing its $75 billion climate tax on energy producers, and we won in federal court. New York tried to punish companies for producing energy legally, including energy used here in Idaho. One state cannot impose its laws on the rest of the country. I will keep fighting back against radical climate extremism that drives up costs for Idaho families.

Idahoans will see clear and accurate ballot language explaining exactly what Proposition One would do and what a no vote would preserve. The Court overruled the proponents’ objection and approved our revised language, including its explanation that Idaho’s current law preserves the lives of preborn children while protecting pregnant women whose lives are at risk and victims of rape or incest. Our responsibility is not to tell Idahoans how to vote, but to tell them plainly what their vote means. Voters now have that information, and the decision belongs to them.

Our duty under the law is straightforward: to provide a clear and concise statement of the effect of a vote on an initiative. We do not tell Idahoans how to vote; we tell them what their vote will do. The Yes statement reflects the sponsors’ own initiative language, and the No statement reflects Idaho law as it stands today. The sponsors are entitled to advocate for their initiative, but they are not entitled to dictate the official ballot language. Idaho voters deserve a fair description of both choices so they can decide for themselves. That is what we provided.

Activists sued to stop President @realDonaldTrump’s White House Ballroom. I filed a brief joined by 18 other states in urging the Supreme Court to reject their attempt. Chief Justice Roberts has temporarily stayed the lower court’s order, allowing construction to continue while the Court considers the case. The group claimed no injury of its own. Instead, it relied on one member who said the completed building would diminish her enjoyment of visiting the White House. Not because she would lose access, but because she would have to look at it. Activists cannot be allowed to manufacture standing from personal displeasure and use it to stop any project they oppose.

The grizzly bear is one of the most emblematic animals of the Mountain West, and it is a perfect example of the federal government continuously overreaching into state affairs and management.  The Endangered Species Act (ESA) has been a frequent vehicle bringing federal bureaucracy into states, particularly in the West.  Spotted owls, wolves, salmon – each one with stifling regulation and economy-collapsing rules.

Grizzly bears were listed as a protected species in 1975. Fifty years later, the grizzly population has grown, and the bears have naturally pushed into areas where Idahoans live, work, and recreate. That expansion comes with public safety risks, damage to private property and livestock, and a heavy management burden on our state agencies and local communities.

Rulemaking to revise that 1975 listing is in progress right now. But in the meantime, we are stuck with a federal rule that governs what Idaho can and cannot do about the bears. The Trump Administration recently proposed a new version of that rule, with the stated goal of cutting needless federal bureaucracy and giving states more flexibility. I applaud that goal. However, this week I sent formal comments to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Fish and Wildlife Service Director Brian Nesvik explaining why the proposal does not yet get there.

As currently written, the proposal makes the paperwork and bureaucracy worse instead of better, and it hands more opportunities to the activist litigation machine that has been suing Idaho over wildlife management for years. That machine is already well-funded at taxpayer expense. A rule full of vague standards and multi-step approval processes is a gift to the environmental activist lawyers filing continuous lawsuits.

Here is one striking example: The proposal builds a new tier of restrictions around the idea that a grizzly bear might get caught in a trap set for another animal. The data says otherwise. Decades of year-round coyote trapping in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming produced no grizzly capture or injury. Neither did the expansion of Idaho's regulated wolf trapping seasons since 2011. Not one documented grizzly capture in a lawfully set trap. Zero.

So where did this manufactured concern come from?  It first appeared in the Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2024 assessment, tracking comments from a scientific peer reviewer who was, at the same time, a paid expert witness for Earthjustice, one of the non-profits responsible for the ongoing lawfare. That firm was suing to shut down wolf trapping across roughly half of Idaho. The peer reviewer told the government he had no conflicts of interest. That was clearly not true.

That is at the heart of my letter to the Administration.  These lawsuits pay lip service to actual conservation while serving special interest fundraising and financing a proliferation of lawyers. Every hour my office spends defending against them is an hour and a dollar taken from actual conservation work that produces results.

I asked the Administration for two things above all. (1) Write clear, plain criteria into the rule so an Idaho trapper or a state biologist can read it and know what the law requires. And (2), respect the Constitution. Under the anti-commandeering doctrine, Washington D.C. cannot force a state to police its own citizens as the price of avoiding federal liability. The rule should plainly state so.

Much of the public comment already filed in this docket is typical advocacy campaign boilerplate letters that treat Idaho's agencies and local communities as if they had made no investment or sacrifice in this recovery. Idaho carried this program for fifty years, and we are the ones living with the successful results. We should not be handed even tighter restrictions as the reward.  My office will continue to fight against federal overreach into Idaho’s state affairs and our natural resources.

For the past five decades, Idaho has grown the grizzly bear population back to health through real investment and sacrifice from our state agencies and local communities. Now it's time the federal government admitted that success instead of rewarding armchair critics and taxpayer-funded activist lawyers who want to run our state from a courtroom. The science and the law both say these bears should be delisted. Until that happens, Idaho needs a rule that protects our hunters, trappers, and rural communities from being sued into submission by radical environmentalist groups ag.idaho.gov/newsroom/ag-lab…

Last year Congress reduced the $200 tax on silencers and short-barreled rifles/shotguns to $0 in the OBBB, but kept the related federal paperwork and fingerprinting requirements. We joined other states and gun rights organizations challenging those requirements. A federal court issued a permanent injunction preventing the government from enforcing the paperwork requirement against the parties to this case. The ruling has caused some confusion. It clearly applies to Idaho’s state agencies and the members and customers of the specific organizations and companies involved in the case. It is not as clear whether it applies to individual Idahoans who were not plaintiffs in the case. I’m working with other Republican Attorneys General to ensure that it applies to every single law abiding citizens and will continue to fight for your 2nd Amendment rights.

A scammer posing as a Wells Fargo investigator convinced an Idahoan to mail $14,000 in cash for safekeeping after claiming his bank account was compromised. I joined a coalition of states in filing an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, backing a federal rule that cracks down on states issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants in violation of federal law. States like California, New York, and Washington have skirted federal law to issue CDLs to illegal immigrants who can’t read our road signs, and families have paid for it with their lives. The Trump Admin is finally enforcing the law that blue states have ignored for years, and my office stands behind them. Idaho will not let liberal policies put unqualified drivers behind the wheel of eighteen-wheelers on our highways.

ICE just posted its biggest month of the Trump administration with 43,000 arrests in June. I know a lot of people hear that and think the enforcement and crackdown are harsh. As a former immigration attorney and Chairman of the Immigration Subcommittee in Congress, I think about it differently. Every one of those arrests is a win for the person who’s been waiting their turn in line to immigrate legally and watched people skip it for years. It’s a win for the construction worker whose wages have been undercut by an illegal labor market. And it’s a win for the family whose neighborhood is no longer dealing with a repeat offender who kept getting released. We don’t have to apologize for wanting a country that enforces its laws and priorities our citizens. It’s what a functioning and just nation should do.

Most people have never heard of the Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence put out by the National Academy of Sciences, but it matters. It is given to judges to familiarize them with background on technical topics, and can influence how judges think about multi-billion-dollar climate lawsuits that impact your energy costs.

Buried inside was a climate science chapter written with input from a trial lawyer who sues energy companies for a living, funded in part by climate litigation donors, and reviewed by no one who disagreed with its conclusions. It was designed to help climate plaintiffs win in court, not to give judges the truth.

Idaho joined Montana and 22 other states to fight it. We got the Federal Judicial Center to pull the chapter from its website. But the National Academies never retracted it. It is still published today, funded by an $875,000 taxpayer grant from the National Science Foundation.

This morning, President Trump ordered federal suspension and debarment officials to review NASEM's conduct, exactly what our coalition asked for in March. Taxpayers should not be funding litigation strategy dressed up as science, and judges deserve the truth. Idaho will keep fighting until this is fixed.

When I reorganized our Consumer Protection Division, the goal was to strengthen investigations and consumer outreach. Because of the changes made we have already returned $956k to Idaho consumers in the first six months of 2026, on pace to beat last year’s record of $1.1 million. These numbers show what this office was built to do: hold bad actors accountable and give Idahoans a fair shot at resolving disputes without the cost and delay of a courtroom. I’m proud of this team, and we will keep fighting for every Idaho consumer and good-faith business in the marketplace.

Idahoans are tired of scammers swindling their families and flooding their phones with non-stop robocalls. I’m calling on the FCC to strengthen rules that would cut off scammers’ access to legitimate telephone numbers. Without that access, scammers can’t use real numbers to deceive and scam Americans. My Consumer Protection Division works daily to educate people on how to avoid scams, but we need to hold telecom providers accountable at the source for allowing that illegal traffic in the first place. I am urging the FCC strengthen its rules to cut off scammers before they can target Idaho families.

Four years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court settled this issue for good. In Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Court held the Constitution says nothing about abortion and left the decision on how to regulate abortion to the states. Relying on that authority, Idaho enacted laws to defend unborn children while still allowing mothers to make difficult decisions when their own lives are at risk. Dr. Stacy Seyb is now asking a federal judge to defy that ruling and hand doctors the power to decide when an unborn child’s life ends, based on nothing more than their own shifting, undefined standards. Seyb also asked the Court to allow abortions when a doctor diagnoses an unborn child with a significant disability. He told the court he sees no point in continuing a pregnancy under such circumstances, questioning at trial, “What is the point?” Our filing calls this exactly what it is: an attempt to use the courts to grant legal cover for eugenics, a position that has no place in Idaho. Seyb’s testimony at trial shows that he failed to learn what Idaho’s laws actually required, and that he operated on a fundamental misunderstanding of the requirements of the law. That failure to understand Idaho’s law is actively harming women. Idaho law already allows doctors acting in their good faith medical judgment to save a mother’s life, without requiring a physician to wait until her death is imminent before performing a life-saving abortion. The Idaho Supreme Court settled that standard more than three years before this trial began. But Seyb testified that he never read that ruling and remains confused about Idaho’s laws. That misunderstanding led Seyb to fly a patient to Utah for care he could—and should—have given her in Idaho, resulting in the patient being septic when she arrived in Utah. Unrebutted expert testimony at trial confirmed that Seyb’s decision to fly that patient to Utah, instead of legally performing the life-saving abortion in Idaho, increased her risk of complications and death. Our brief also notes that Idaho’s law has coincided with a dramatic drop in maternal deaths since Dobbs. Idaho’s pregnancy-related mortality rate has plummeted from 18.7 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2018 to 4.29 in 2024, and Idaho’s combined rate over the past two years runs well below the national average. Finally, the brief explains in depth that there is no historical support in the history and traditions of the United States to support Seyb’s arguments that Idaho’s laws are unconstitutional. Rather, the clear history in the U.S. prior to the now overturned Roe v. Wade decision is that states were always free to regulate abortion. Idaho’s laws protecting unborn life, while allowing for an abortion when necessary to save the life of the mother, are consistent with centuries of U.S. legal history and tradition.

I had the chance to visit Boston for the first time last week and walk the Freedom Trail through one of the most historic cities in our country. I stood at the Old State House, where the Declaration of Independence received one of its earliest public readings on July 18, 1776, just weeks after it was adopted in Philadelphia. Standing on that spot, I thought about how differently that document is treated today than it was by the people who first heard it read aloud. If you want to hear the founding document read the way it was meant to be heard, the JFK Presidential Library has a recording of a young Senator John F. Kennedy reading the Declaration in full for a July 4th radio broadcast in 1957. It's a good listen with your family this weekend, and you can find it here: jfklibrary.org/asset-viewer/… This Fourth of July marks 250 years since the Declaration was adopted, and America's founding principles are under direct attack from institutions that were supposed to protect them. Universities teach students that the founding was a fraud built on oppression rather than the greatest experiment in self-government in human history. Corporate and media elites treat American patriotism as something embarrassing to be managed rather than something to be proud of. Federal agencies operate as if the Constitution's limits on their power are optional. Together these amount to an attack on the American inheritance itself, on our history, our values, our culture, and the way of life generations of Americans built and defended. A republic survives only as long as its people still believe in it and are willing to defend it. American culture, forged through faith, family, hard work, and a shared commitment to liberty, gave rise to the Constitution and has kept it alive for 250 years. When elite institutions teach children to see their own country as a source of shame rather than pride, they cut the next generation off from the inheritance they need to keep the republic going. As Benjamin Franklin left the Constitutional Convention in 1787, he was asked whether the delegates had created a republic or a monarchy. His reply has outlasted every one of them: "A republic, if you can keep it." Keeping it requires more than institutions and laws. It requires a people who still love this country enough to defend what makes it worth keeping. President Ronald Reagan reminded Americans that “freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” He understood that liberty is not inherited automatically. Every generation must learn why our Constitution matters, why limited government protects freedom, and why the principles proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence are worth preserving. A generation that never learns to appreciate the miracle of ordered liberty cannot be expected to defend it. If America is to remain free for another 250 years, we must do more than celebrate our history. We must teach it, preserve it, and pass it on with confidence. Happy Fourth of July, Idaho. It remains the honor of my life to serve as your Attorney General and to stand with all Americans who have kept faith with this Republic for the last two and a half centuries.   We have kept it for 250 years. May we prove worthy to keep it for 250 more.

Two hundred fifty years ago, fifty-six men signed a Declaration that could have gotten them killed. They risked everything they had, and they gave us something just as lasting: a foundation built on self-government, the rule of law, and the belief that our rights come from God, not from government. Generations of Americans built on that foundation. Farmers, soldiers, pioneers, and all Americans who believed in something bigger than themselves and were willing to work for it. Rugged individuals who didn't wait for permission from government and built families, towns, and a country out of hard work and a shared faith and culture. That's what's lasted 250 years. A founding worth defending, and a people who never stopped defending it. Happy 250th birthday, America.

Six years ago, the world was on the brink of losing its mind over girls’ sports. The media frenzy was intense, and the NCAA even threatened to boycott Idaho. Five former attorneys general went so far as to urge a veto. Despite facing all these challenges, Representative Barb Ehardt remained steadfast in her belief that the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act was the right thing to do. She introduced and sponsored the bill anyway. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court sided with her. Barb stood firm when almost everyone advised her to abandon the cause. Even the previous Attorney General issued an unfavorable opinion, claiming that the law was unconstitutional. However, I disagreed with this assessment. I was proud to defend the law in court throughout the legal proceedings, determined to protect Idaho’s girls in sports.

One year ago today, Coeur d'Alene Battalion Chief John Morrison and Kootenai County Battalion Chief Frank Harwood were killed, and Engineer David Tysdal was shot and seriously wounded, in an ambush while responding to a brushfire on Canfield Mountain. All three were doing the job firefighters do every day, answering a call without knowing what waited for them. BIG WIN for the Second Amendment. SCOTUS struck down Hawaii's "Vampire Rule" today, 6-3, in Wolford v. Lopez. I co-led a coalition of states urging the Court to take the case, arguing Hawaii was infringing on the constitutional rights of its citizens. Instead of letting anyone enter property open to the public unless told otherwise, Hawaii made it a crime for gun owners to enter unless the owner gave permission first. The Second Amendment puts explicit restrictions on government itself, and the Court agreed with us.

My office helped secure a sentence of 40 years fixed and life indeterminate for Daniel Whiteley, for distributing sexually exploitative material with sentencing enhancements for being a persistent violator and registered sex offender. This is exactly the kind of predator who has no business walking free in our communities. Every file on that laptop was a real child being abused. My office will keep working with local law enforcement to find these criminals, build strong cases, and put them away for as long as the law allows.

As Idahoans book flights and hotels for summer vacations, I'm warning families to watch for travel scammers looking to steal their money before they ever leave home. If you think you’ve been the victim of a vacation scam, visit ReportScamsIdaho.com for scam prevention resources or to file an investigative complaint with my Consumer Protection Division.

Two years ago, the Biden administration tried to rewrite Title IX — the federal law that has protected women and girls in education for over 50 years. Their rule would have forced boys into girls’ bathrooms and imposed gender ideology on schools nationwide. Idaho joined a coalition of states to stop it. Courts blocked the rule, Biden appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, and he lost. Since then, every appeal has now been dismissed and as of this week the rule is permanently defeated.

Theodore Prevost sought out and distributed child sexual abuse material and admitted it to law enforcement. He pled guilty and a Judge sentenced him to 30 years, with a minimum of 9 years in prison. I want to thank my Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for their work arresting and prosecuting this case and to our partners at @NCMEC for bringing this tip forward. My office will not stop pursuing these individuals. Protecting Idaho families is our top priority.

This week I had the opportunity to speak to Idaho Technology Services at their Cyber Discovery Briefing about what my office is seeing in the fight against cyber crime and scams. Keeping Idaho families and government systems safe from these threats is a growing priority that takes all of us working together.

ICAC CONVICTION This sentence removes another predator from our streets and sends the message that we will not waver in prosecuting those who abuse and exploit children. Idaho families deserve to know we are working every day to empower them with the resources to protect their children online and arrest and prosecute those who commit these heinous crimes.

Joined State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth, Eagle Mayor Brad Pike, Senator Treg Bernt, Representative Josh Tanner, and students and families at Eagle Elementary this morning. Together we celebrated Idahoans completing 250,000 acts of service for America's 250th birthday. What a testament to our state and its people.

President Trump has successfully stopped the surge of illegal immigration at our border. Now we must address the millions who remain in our country unlawfully. Enforcing our laws and deporting those who are here illegally is critical to protecting American families, safeguarding our communities, and securing America’s future.

American energy production means jobs, lower costs, and national security. Climate activists sued to shut it down and asked a single federal judge to veto the President’s energy decisions. The Ninth Circuit, including two Democrat-appointed judges, threw the case out. Idaho joined a coalition who intervened to defend American energy, and we won.

🚨 MEDICAID FRAUD ARRESTS🚨 My Medicaid Fraud Control Unit just arrested Joseph Hakizimana and Hussein Hamad for Provider Fraud in Ada County. Medicaid fraud deprives Idaho taxpayers of their hard-earned money and causes significant harm to individuals who genuinely rely on this program. My thanks to our law enforcement partners for their assistance in these arrests.

Medicaid fraud deprives Idaho taxpayers of their hard-earned money and causes significant harm to individuals who genuinely rely on this program. I am proud of our collaborative efforts with the Trump Administration to combat this fraudulent activity. We will be working with our federal and legislative partners for greater authority to do even more.

Congratulations to the Ambrose School Mock Trial team on a remarkable run this season! This team of juniors, sophomores, and one freshman won the Idaho State Championship, then traveled to Des Moines Iowa and placed 15th out of 44 teams at Nationals. A great group of young Idahoans with a lot more ahead of them. It was a privilege to meet and talk with them about their season.

It’s always a pleasure when Idahoans visit the office. Today, Scout Troops 195 and 19 from Mountain Home made their way through the Capitol and stopped by to say hello. It was wonderful to hear about their experiences in Scouts and what the future holds for them!

Combatting waste, fraud, and abuse starts with holding fraudsters accountable. My office recovered more than $900K in Medicaid fraud last year, but with better data access and the right reforms, we can recover even more. Along with working with the Trump Administration, I plan to go to the Legislature to secure the additional authority and resources to help make that happen.

Illegal aliens on Medicaid is just one part of massive fraud draining the system. The White House says fixing it could balance the entire federal budget. I’m working with the Trump Administration to make sure Idaho does our part.

I’m in D.C. today meeting with VP Vance and the @WHFraudTF to discuss ways to partner together and better combat Medicaid fraud in Idaho. Working with the Trump Admin and @USAO_ID, we recovered over $360K in Medicaid fraud this past year, the highest civil recovery in a decade. I’ll continue partnering with the White House and the U.S. Department of Justice to protect taxpayer dollars and hold bad actors accountable. I will also pursue additional authority and resources from the Idaho Legislature to strengthen these efforts even further.

Freedom is not free. Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy, and we remember the families who live with that loss.

Predators are using code words on social media apps right now to find and share videos of child sexual abuse, and most parents have no idea. My office will not stop pursuing these individuals, and we will keep working to make sure Idaho parents know the dangers their children face online. More information: ag.idaho.gov/newsroom/ag-lab…

This week I traveled to Washington, D.C. for a National Police Week roundtable at the White House with @DAGToddBlanche and @FBIDirectorKash. I was honored to represent Idaho’s law enforcement community, and to make the case for federal support in our fight against human trafficking and child exploitation. The Trump Administration was receptive, and I look forward to building on that conversation.

Great running into some of Idaho’s finest at the U.S. Capitol today. Deputies from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office were touring the People’s House.  I thanked them for their service was honored to show them the Speaker’s Balcony. Idaho is safer because of the men and women who put on the badge every day.
