I dunno. My dad probably couldn't recognize that show because instead of watching reruns of it he was busy illegally listening to Voice of America in the USSR and dreaming about escaping the commie hellhole he was born in and to get to the land of freedom. And then he managed to get himself and his family (including me) here. So I won't *tell you* what it means to be American, because that's obscene, but I'll happily *talk to you* about what it means to be an American, and it won't be from a position of ignorance.

I'm not American or old but this really is the only test: Did you share common cultural norms and references growing up? If you can't be sentimental and nostalgic for this stuff, you are not of that culture.
