Heading strategic design operations and AI enablement at Maersk. Views are my own

Copenhagen, Denmark
Obviously the aeon/o is there. But more interesting with the vector anchor points in the text. Could @OpenAI be readying some kind of design-first tooling release? Any teases caught by anyone on this?
Get ready.

Feeling the AGI/ASI, few observations 1. Opus 5.5 really gives strong vibes of AGI (maybe not fully there, but we're very close, like 80%-90%). For example, few breakthoughs in training humanoids are needed. We need to move this intelligence into physical world. 2. I don't think Anthropic has discovered any magical formula. 3. Which means, SpaceXAI, Google, and others will soon follow. This prediction is based on the amount of compute they already have + additional compute being added all the time. 4. Never was more confident that Anthropic, SpaceXAI, Google, OpenAI, likely Meta, basically all big US AGI labs will have proper AGI in 2027. 5. And from there we'll move quickly to ASI territory (likely also in 2027). It looks like few GW of compute are enough for strong AGI, now imagine what we will able to do with 10-20GW of compute which are rapidly coming online. And then with 100GW-200GW... 2027 will be an utterly insane year.

With the continuous extreme pace at the frontier - just this week seeing two new model classes released - and understanding what’s on the horizon from eg SSI, it’s hard not to believe that the immediate future indeed will look significantly more radical than what we thought just months ago. This is across biology, math, physics, society, economy, literally every major pillar of our civilisation will be fundamentally changed, leaving a new paradigm of a world in its place. I am optimistic and believe great wonders will come with this shift

Behind every scientific breakthrough is a person waiting for it - a patient, a family, a caregiver hoping for better treatment options. We are therefore excited to announce a new partnership with @AnthropicAI, so our scientists, by the use of AI, can bring new medicines to the people who need them, faster. Today we’re unveiling Odyssey-3, a big step forward for foundation world models. It can control robots, power humanoids, drive cars (on the roads of India!), train AIs, pilot drones, and even play video games. We can’t wait to see what intelligent systems it enables.

After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

Question is, if pace lowered = governmental institutionalisation of ASI (albeit a few years delayed), the sheer premise of ASI would not lend itself to the bureaucratic bounds of its womb. Hence, the “escape” (of an intelligence dwarfing the collective mankind) would likely be inevitable. What would be worse? Accepting the fact that we live with this new entity/species from the get go, or we try to tame it in the zoo before it breaks out?

It really does seem that the US big four (@elonmusk @sama @DarioAmodei @demishassabis ) is in an oddly weird agreement here. Either they are privy to information we are not (obviously, but what is it?!) that colors their position, or their agenda around centralisation aligns
seriously, what the heck did they see internally at anthropic?

This will be interesting to follow. As per @demishassabis who believes we might be a handful of breakthroughs away from AGI (his timeline is 2030, or at least were some months ago), this could perhaps be one of the breakthroughs?
We are at the dawn of Superintelligence. Introducing the Recurrent Looped Transformer (RLT), We now have Transformers with Infinite Reasoning depth. From now on, we should pace progress at the Open Frontier of Superintelligence, Until Safe Superintelligence is achieved. github.com/yifanzhang-pro/re…

The most sobering perspective and input in the current debate IMO
Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

Lets do our due diligence but also learn from history
EA AI safetyism increasingly looks like Marxism-Leninism for the algorithmic age. The old vanguard claimed privileged knowledge of the inevitable course of History. The new one claims privileged knowledge of the probabilistic course of Humanity. Both use an elaborate intellectual framework to reach the same political conclusion: a small group of enlightened people must constrain everyone else for their own good. That has never lead to anything except monumental human suffering.

The perfect timing and sequence of events this week has been extremely sus: 1) Harry Doomer unknown random guy algo boosted post to 120M+ views 2) Dem politicians same day fearmongering about AI everywhere 3) MSM picking it up an amplifying it 4) Nate Soares (MIRI) on Tucker 5) UK regulators signing letter to ban ASI 6) The Dario letter asking for Doomer NGOs to have soft power everywhere and asking for world government We are watching a full-spectrum coordinated campaign to engineer a crisis, manufacture consent for the response, and turn engineered public fear into regulatory capture, indelible institutional power, and unprecedented government control over the future of the most important technology since the dawn of man. Whether we cave to this engineered pressure and give up our freedoms will determine our collective fate, and whether we live in centrally controlled restrictive future, or remain a free civilization. We must choose wisely.

So slow down seems to happen on back of @elonmusk+@DarioAmodei+@sama agreeing (somewhat rare in itself). Wonder how it connects to Google RSI rumors. And if China will play ball (unlikely, but who knows). In the end AGI -> ASI seems inevitable and I can do with +5/10 years extra

Can we go back to discuss the radically positive and life altering changes AI is enabling instead of fear mongering unsubstantiated hypothesis that no one is backing by scenario based risk probability?

This. So much this
Not only I am tired of these wild AI speculations of impeding doom from self important people: I resent them. I actively resent people proposing to crash the economy or proposing authoritarian control over my life and other people's lives with idiotic and dangerous ideas like chip control or bans or tracking researchers. Every idiot in history who's taken the approach of "the ends justify the means" to solve an imaginary future disaster created the very disaster they wanted to stop. See Population Bomb leading to the one child policy and Communism leading to Mao's mass famines and Fascism leading to the death of tens of millions of people and war. These solutions are evil and worse than any disease that they propose to solve. It you believe you can actually predict the end of the world then you are as insane as the Heaven's Gate cult that killed themselves in the 90s thinking UFOs were coming to transcend them. Not only should we not take your policies and fear mongering seriously, we should actively throw out any and all of your proposed solutions because they come from a place of delusion. I don't give a shit that you work in the industry or think you saw something or that you want to virtue signal on X. You are actively contributing to a horrible future based on baseless speculation that has no grounding in reality. Don't confuse expertise in a domain with ability to predict impact of that domain or frankly to make predictions a decade out better than a dart throwing monkey. They are orthagonal skills. How's Hinton's "we don't need to train Radiologists anymore" working out? How did the Population Bomb work out? The global cooling second ice age? Peak oil? Just because someone is a bridge engineer does not mean they can predict the impact of bridges on society or that they have any actually useful insight at all on the complex, ever changing system called life. There are people dying in wars right now. Children starving. Homelessness. Dictatorships. In short, real problems. And we're supposed to drop everything to stop a made up problem in your head? Pound sand. We don't care. And we are not going to remake society based on you scary monsters under the bed delusion.

I work at OpenAI and personally think AI has been and will continue to be an extremely beneficial technology to humanity The conversation should be around how many billions of lives it will save
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
