Many powerful technological breakthroughs were developed by people in the throes of religious fervor. Monastic demand for precise prayer times drove early mechanical clocks. Gutenberg built the press to print Bibles. Newton spent more time on theology and alchemy than physics, and treated gravity as part of divine order. Faraday, a strict Sandemanian elder, discovered electromagnetic induction while looking for the laws of a single Creator. Mendel worked out inheritance in a monastery garden. Early woodblock printing spread first through Buddhist texts. This is just part of human nature.
The most powerful new technology in the world is being developed by an insular group of fanatics suffering from a pseudo-religious saviour complex

Evolution of WYSIWYG. 1. See text styling as you edit. 2. See entire site style as you edit. 3. See and swap ideas from the machine god as you edit.
For years, maybe a decade, I've wanted to build a writing tool that just did a few things I couldn't find anywhere else. A system that mimicked how I think when I write. A system that provided clear affordances, features, and places to do the things I wanted to do. A way to play with my writing as I'm writing it. A way to settle into just the right way to say something. It never made sense to make it a 37signals product because it's not commercially viable, nor would it be worth pulling people off their other work to hack on this. Plus, it would have taken months the old way. So this weekend I just made it myself, with Claude's help. It's called Write_On and the short video walks you through it. Essentially it's "alternative control" at the word, sentence, and paragraph level, plus a way to dim stuff back, and stash stuff near by. Not version control, but alternative control. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video below. So here it is. Write_On.

this is *excellent.* simple UX tweaks to a text editor but its better than just adding a mess of alternative lines to the end of the work (which is what I always do). makes writing more like sculpting.

Yesterday SpaceX demonstrated the capability to launch 46 tons to orbit. That's over half the weight of Skylab, an entire space station from 1973. We're about to see a new generation of these in orbit.

I think every time AI can do something equally good or better than humans it stops being valuable or special Marketing videos used to take lots of work of editing and motion graphics and a big budget Now with Opus 5.5 etc it costs $0 to make one as good or better That means ANYONE can make a marketing video now, so the timeline gets flooded with these videos (as you see happening now) and people stop caring about them, stop watching them and they stop grabbing attention The response then to still grab attention is be different and that probably means IRL marketing videos that are original and unique and maybe personal It's the grim reaper meme where AI keeps commoditizing another media format and bringing the cost down to close to $0 It already did so for graphic design (2023), last year with Nano Banana for photography (2025), this year with Seedance 2.5 it did it for video (2026) and this and next year motion graphics

"Slop" has become a comfort blanket for a cohort of programmers stuck somewhere between anger and bargaining on their way to acceptance. There might be some kicking and screaming, maybe a little crying, but eventually you have to let the blanket go and update your priors.

my attempt in a tweet. 1. full body locomotion is still a novelty in AI output 2. the song/performance is great but old enough to now be nostalgic 4. video is mimetically wholesome (male friendship/support) 5. Amusing to swap in celeb duos 6. RIP Takeoff
Who’s gonna write the long form essay on why this video became a thing over the last week and its implications?

we're in a golden era of indie niche pods and its very funny how many of them end up converging on the same topics every week
