never not talking about movies

Toronto, Ontario
I just wrapped on my first short film, Triple Feature! I’ll have more to share soon, but I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished in just two nights, and looking at the footage now moves me beyond words. Thank you to everyone who provided love and encouragement and advice. 🎬

I’ll still see it but positive tweets about Digger much more off-putting than the negative ones because they’re doing that defensive thing where you can tell they’re trying to convince themselves as they’re posting that it’ll become a cult classic.

it can both be true that Digger is a smarter movie than most critics have believed and also that a movie being intentionally grating and unpleasant is a perfectly fine reason to be turned off by it

Worked a 16 hour overnight shoot last night, I’m on three hours of sleep, I’m not sure I’m even alive right now. Seated for Digger.

All respect to Cuaron but it feels a tad premature to jumpstart the Digger revisionism conversation, considering it's been in theatres for ONE day. I get he's trying to sell his movie, and fair enough, but damn I haven't even seen it yet.

I get that the category is, in practice, kind of just the Genre Movie category, but this is massive fraud lol

it's like no one's the first to scream when students debut their low-budget short film before it becomes a global blockbuster anymore :(

I have no dog in this fight becauae I have not seen the film, but why does a film need to justify its budget to a film critic? Are you a studio executive?
REVIEW: “Tom Cruise’s “Digger” wants to be the “Dr. Strangelove” of climate change. But instead of laughs, it has in-your-face overacting and a didactic disaster scenario: “The movie cost north of $125 million to make, and that figure is not only too big to probably justify itself; it’s a testament to the arrogance of the filmmakers, to the assumption that we’ll turn out in droves for this ponderous absurdist lecture,” writes Variety’s @OwenGleiberman. wp.me/pc8uak-1lHN31

Godzilla Minus Negative One
Takashi Yamazaki says that if he makes a third ‘Godzilla Minus’ movie, he doesn't know what to title it “I mean, we've gone ‘Minus One’ and ‘Minus Zero’. So if there is another sequel to this, where do we take it from here?” (source: @TheNYFF)

A mob of radicalized extremists trying to intimidate and block peaceful people from seeing a documentary by Jews. Chilling antisemitism.
The Israeli-American Council has formed a protest outside the New York Film Festival premiere of “NAZA.” The organization has described the documentary as an “anti-Israel” film that “makes serious allegations about the IDF’s conduct in the Gaza Strip while ignoring findings and information that contradict its claims” and fails to present the full “context of the October 7 attack that led to the war.”

Now seated. I’m excited to see a straightforward documentary about concrete with no weird tangents or diversions whatsoever.
