I tried to recreate the aesthetic and features of the original Pokédex on the iPhone Duo - built using @bitrig - integrated the @Photoroom API to remove the background and add a nice shadow - used the on-device `LanguageModelSession` to identify the Pokémon I literally can't wait to try it on a real device, with a live video feed to capture the photo! (and I'm low-key sad that I had the idea too late for @RevenueCat Shipaton, but let's face it: this app would have never made it through AppStore review)

We've done 27 launches in 27 weeks since Fede joined @bitrig. What a legend! Our mantra is "don't break the streak." We live by the ceramics-class lesson from Art & Fear: the students graded on quantity ended up making the best pots.
6 months at @bitrig :)

Did I really peak in college? Jeez, I hope not. But reflecting back on those simpler times gives me hope and motivation for growing and learning in the AI era. I guess you'll just have to come to Swiftsonic to find out more! Tickets are still available but I hear they're going fast.
THERE'S ONLY ONE OPENING NIGHT. Swiftsonic’s belongs to @superbetsy! Our festival of legends opens with her hit single, "I PEAKED IN COLLEGE". OH YES: her rockband, @bitrig, sponsors us in Nashville! THE CURTAIN GOES UP WITH BETSY. Get your pass: swiftsonicconf.com

I can't wait to turn the tables on @superbetsy after years of receiving her feedback on our WWDC talks

Just saw a rough cut of this, @viditb has a ton of thoughtful takes on things like skeuomorphism, adapting Duo apps to classic iPhone form factor, and working with AI. So good!
Just filmed an interview with @viditb, creator of Duo-Man. He dives into how he created it for the iPhone Duo. Out tomorrow on the @bitrig YouTube channel: piped.video/@BitrigApp

I really enjoyed @viditb's take on this new era of skeuomorphism: "Part of the fun is giving that tactile feel. I've gone through the era of skeuomorphic UI. I know its limitations. It was very static. A lot of times you would take a bunch of Photoshop screens and put it onto the UI. That meant you lost a little bit of interactivity. What I like a lot about this era is that you can bring together shaders, and you can bring together a more interactive form of skeuomorphism, which is what I like the most. So I would say I have a more balanced take on skeuomorphism. I don't miss the old era that much, but I'm excited about using shaders and using haptics to replicate the real-world textures."

Some great advice from @viditb on translating an iPhone Duo app to a normal iPhone form factor: "It’s more difficult to go from something that’s bigger to a smaller screen, because now you have to think about the position. Versus if you start from the small screen, it becomes easier. You can think about, okay, this is how I expand the interface. Think about how you would use the app with the Duo screen closed. Even with Duo, I was conscious about having all the functionality available if you did not want to participate in the gimmick of opening up and closing. So, there is a way to actually eject the tape from the outer screen as well. You press the eject button and it shows up a cover flow. And of course, it’s less fun, but just building in that functionality helped me transfer it to the normal iPhone."

Another amazing Duo app from Saturday's @bitrig hackathon
Yesterday we built Iris, an app for the iphone duo that allows people with ALS to speak with their eyes We had a ton of fun building it at the @ycombinator and @bitrig hackathon Here's a one-shot marketing video we did with Opus 5.5 I still need to work on some of the mockups but not bad at all @andressrg @dvelezve

A number of people have asked how it's possible that Duo-Man (x.lingyaoai.com/viditb/status/21041035…) didn't win 1st place at @bitrig hacks. It was a tough call, but the CRATE app is beautiful and compelling and the team's live performance brought the house down. Check it out!
We won 1st place at the @ycombinator × @bitrig hackathon 🏆 We built CRATE, a foldable AI sampler for iPhone Duo @Apple Type "french jazz piano sample" → a beat in 0.3s. Finger drum on bottom screen, sequencer on top. Build and drop with the hinge

Vidit’s Duo-Man killed at Bitrig Hacks last night. So fun. So funny. It only plays music when the Duo is closed 😂
Duo-Man offers the complete walkman experience on the iPhone Duo. Open the Duo to pick and 'insert' the cassette, Close the Duo to start listening. Yes, I actually recorded the button clicks and static noise from a real Walkman! It was fun making this at @bitrig hacks today.

This drawOn symbol effect is easy to take for granted, but it was actually a lot of work to get right. 1. SF symbols are not strokes. If you look closely at the signature, not all portions of the path are the same width. 2. Moving along the path and naively filling it would look awful! Consider filling along curves where one side of the path is shorter than the other. You want the animation to fill gracefully, but there's nothing that connects the two sides of the path. The solution was to annotate each symbol with these "railroad track" guides
SwiftUI Tip 💡 Want an SF Symbol that draws itself on? In iOS 26+, use .symbolEffect(.drawOn, isActive:).
