Elon on Terafab and TSMC: "Just discussions, but something may come of it." Let's unpack how this would work. TSMC has done this before. In 1999 it took a minority stake in SSMC, a fab in Singapore run by Philips, now NXP. TSMC licensed its process and earned royalties on every wafer sold. Both partners committed to buying capacity. 27 years later, it's still running. Here's how a Terafab version could work for all three: Elon: SpaceX and Tesla own Terafab and keep control. Chips for AI5, AI6 and orbital compute. TSMC: a minority stake plus a license on a proven node. It earns royalties as Terafab scales and never competes with its customers. Nvidia: the glue. In August Elon said SpaceX and xAI are "exclusive to Nvidia." Starmind, SpaceX's orbital AI satellite, runs on Nvidia's Vera Rubin. Nvidia is also TSMC's biggest customer, and TSMC builds its chips. October is off to a busy start for Tesla: deliveries, Cybercabs, Roadster, XTakeover on 10.10 and more. But one update shouldn't be missed. Tesla added Emergency Drive Away. If you're in danger at a Supercharger, you can now shift into Drive and pull away while still plugged in. The cable breaks off. It came two months after the Twin Falls shooting at a Supercharger. Each use can do up to $25K in damage to the stall. They shipped it anyway. To me, this speaks volumes about Tesla's character.
