Great, now I need to stock up on toilet paper.
🚨Breaking. There's been a pneumonic plague outbreak at a BSL-3 lab in Siberia, Russia.🚨 "Nearly 200 People Under Observation After Irkutsk Lab Worker Dies From Plague" - Moscow Times This is fact, and also the inciting incident in my book BIOLOGICAL WAR: A SCENARIO, which is unnerving. Will post more as I learn more, including from Russian speaking sources🧵 shorturl.at/De4kW

This is a great example of how far AI image generation models have progressed in just one year.

This is one of the aspects of life in Europe that I always forget about when I am away for a long time. I start reminiscing about beautiful walkable historic towns and cozy relaxed outdoor cafes, but then more often than not - especially in my neck of the continent - you are assaulted with the stench of tobacco almost everywhere.
I love Monaco and France but dislike the patio smoking. It’s everywhere and it’s disgusting. Outside eating and some dude lights up a stogie or cig without a care in the world. It always amazes me how many people smoke here.

Based on this segmentation of the US, Northwest is my favorite - by far! If you ever get a chance go on a road trip across that whole region. I would highly recommend it.

It’s been a good couple of days. Several things have come together that have been in works for really long time. So much to be grateful for.

I mean, we already had expert systems in the 1980s beating doctors.
I’m hearing this a lot lately. “AI alone is already better than AI + doctor.” (Last heard here @x @FutureJurvetson). If true, what do you think this tells us?

Yes.
Grit predicts success even after IQ is accounted for. Persistence adds what talent alone does not.

Italians when they are in their supremacist mode: all of Mediterranean is Italy, that’s Mare Nostrum. Italians when someone is making them feel inferior: akshyally, real Italy is just Rome and the surrounding areas.
most people don't know this but south of Rome is NOT italy

Except that most researchers don’t really read papers, not even at the best of times. They usually skip to the methods section, go over a few tables, and then try to figure out what that means for *their* potential work. And AI agents can really digest thousands of papers a day.
I actually like this policy. I'm not going to read your 42 papers this month. Pick two, your very best two.

They should let Claude go for a walk. I’d recommend 35,000 steps a day.
The NYT article on Anthropic's campaign to sway religious scholars to view Claude as an entity with considerable moral status is both wild and very, very dark; it starts here and just gets nuttier.

Incredible. As a die-hard mushroom lover, I approve this message.
Cancer Absolutely Hates Mushrooms. Pennsylvania State University researchers analyzed mushroom consumption on cancer risk, involving 19,500 patients. The subjects in the highest-consumption - 2/3 of an ounce of any type of mushrooms daily - had a 45% lower risk of developing cancer. Mushrooms are a powerful preventative. sciencedaily.com/releases/20……

This sounds way more lavish than it is. I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels and dined at Michelin restaurants in SF and they were underwhelming, to say the least. There really is no high-end luxury hospitality industry in SF.
Replying to @DavidDecosimo
And most normal people, when they get proximate to those with extreme power & wealth & lavished with luxury & attention (Michelin tasting menus, suites at the best 5 star hotel) have a very hard time fully keeping their bearings. It's an intoxicating experience & one wants more.
