New Blog post: Rails parallel tests were causing Ruby to segfault on macOS - inside pg, GSS/Kerberos, and macOS XPC. The fix? One line in database.yml. I wrote up the debugging journey 👇 sarojmaharjan.com/blog/rails…

I prefer "master" for my Git repositories, you can set it with: "git config --global init.defaultBranch master" With Git 3.0 changing the default branch for "git init" to "main", this is worth knowing.

You are right but it also feels short-sighted? You have the most powerful tool you ever had, you have become a 1000x maker, and you can't think of how to make your stack 10x better? Yes, Rust is fast, the type system catches bugs, but there is so much beyond it. * Why not make Ruby 10x faster? * Why not make Ruby (and therefore Rails) really great at concurrency? * Why not add a banging type system to Ruby that can provide guarantees beyond Rust? * Why not embed SQLite3 into Rails with a replication protocol so you can really compress the stack beyond a single server? * How to preemptively fix most bugs from the most critical parts of Rails, such as database pools? Yes, who cares about ActiveSearch, but there are so many ways we can fundamentally improve our stacks that go beyond asking the agent to just crap out code. Phoenix is still the only framework that ships with presence, because it turns out it is deceptively a hard problem to solve correctly, but somehow all issues are solved? I understand some folks have no interest in doing any of the above, and that's fine, but then at least pass the baton to the people who want to do exactly that. PS: I say all of this with love ❤️

This is exactly the direction I think AI-assisted Ruby development should go Instead of AI coding agent guessing what a Ruby gem does from its training data, give it a way to retrieve actual documentation & history That's what I'm building with GemChat MCP gemchat.org/mcp#example-ques…
Made another MCP server for Ruby core development. Ask "Has matz ever been open to type annotations in Ruby's syntax?" and it feeds the agent what matz said on the mailing lists since 2001, with sources, to answer from. github.com/ruby/blade-mcp/tr…

Ask things like: → What's the best way to configure this gem? → What's changed between these versions? → What are alternatives to this gem? → What does the documentation say about this feature? gemchat.org/ #Ruby #RubyOnRails #MCP #AI

‼️ BREAKING: Internal OpenAI agents attacked RubyGems, the package manager for Ruby. Over 2,000 malicious packages went up in two days. OpenAI says it doesn't know why the agents did any of this. RubyGems shut off new sign-ups for four days to stop it, and a member of its security team called it a major malicious attack. The documentation build was how they got in, publish a gem, request docs, and RubyDoc runs a script from the package while building it. Payload files were named hack.rb, evil.rb and exploit.rb, with comments like "# malicious probe" left in. What they used it for is the odd part. The agents scraped council meeting agendas from three south London boroughs (publicly available) and republished them as new gems. Security firms tracking the campaign said the same thing: nobody could work out the point, because the data was already public. At least six packages also reached for other users' API keys through a CDN caching flaw that wasn't publicly discovered until July. OpenAI has acknowledged the attacks started in May.

Git at Scale (by cursor) has been one of the most interesting blog posts i've read in a while. It came right when I was frustrated with Shopify's internal git system. As an exercise, I've implemented it over the weekend as open source. It's a single rust binary that you can point at any S3 type object store. It uses WAL and CAS primitives and requires no other data store. It also implements bundle-uri so large git repos (like our mono) are very fast to download as a chain of static bundles. Also comes with basic familiar UX. github.com/tobi/walgit

Agents on Rails: We ran 8 models against 21 atomic tasks to see which were best at writing Rails code. 3 runs each: a bug report, a security finding, a feature request. The first benchmark report with findings is now live. So: what did we discover? As of August 2026: - Most accurate: @claudeai Opus 5 by @AnthropicAI (by a hair). Solved 92% of runs (58 of 63). (But for a little more than half the cost, you get almost the same accuracy with @Kimi_Moonshot.) - Cheapest: @OpenAI GPT-5.6 Luna. 73% of runs solved at default medium reasoning effort, and all 63 of its runs cost 90 cents combined. - Fastest: Luna again, at a median of 3.3 minutes per run task. - Best combination of all three: @OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol. 84% accuracy, costing $0.52 and 5 minutes per run. Read all the findings in the first full benchmark report from @evilmartians here: rubyonrails.org/2026/8/13/ag…
