"Programming languages and frameworks are dead." Yes, kind of. What will matter in future is runtime behavior: Performance characteristics, resource usage, failure modes, observability, debuggability, deployments, rollbacks. And legibility of all that to agents.

Dice rolling across a Flutter widget tree. The cards, the button, and the score are plain widgets, and the dice cast shadows on them. :) The dice are physics bodies drawn by Flutter Scene, a complete 3D game engine for Flutter, in a transparent layer on top. An invisible shadow catcher material stands in for the screen surface, so the only thing the 3D layer draws is the dice and the shadows they leave on the UI. Land a die hard enough on a card and it cracks. The shards are the card's own pixels, thrown as physics bodies, and they cast shadows like everything else. No image assets anywhere. The stripes, the cards, the pip faces, and the wood and marble textures are painted or baked at startup. Physics is Rapier through flutter_scene_rapier, and this was recorded in debug mode. The shadow catcher material shipped today in flutter_scene 0.23. This version of the dice example, with the count-up, the glass, and the breaking cards, lands in the example app with the next release.

If you're a React Native user, you should *really* try out Flutter some time to see what we're missing. The integrated debugger is just mesmerising. You can navigate your UI tree via component hierarchy, or via visual layout. Clicking on either takes you to the declaration site!

Google Docs is going to be as legacy as Word if they don't launch a great MCP soon. `gws` is an insufficient workaround. All small companies are just going to switch to Notion or whoever has "bring your own model" accessible document editing.

Yup. Apple is not going to replace their stores with chat boxes. Brand experience matters. UX matters.
I still believe in the user interface. Feels like today's consensus is that the UI is dying in favor of building AI apps on top of existing messaging platforms. I don't buy it. The UI is where the best products earn trust, build brand, and optimize engagement.

"I just want to serve 5tb" is still funny 15 years later. Also a remarkable inditement of big tech, and a good case for why LLMs (trained on all the gunk of engineering) are so useful. piped.video/watch?v=3t6L-Flf…

Ladies and gentlemen, @_eseidel! He was nice enough to sit down with me at #Fluttercon, drop some Flutter history, and talk about why frameworks like Flutter matter more in the era of AI. piped.video/watch?v=8OUcGUiK…

How is it 2026 and claude can't buy something for me on Amazon? Didn't we have physical one-click re-order buttons in 2008 or something?

Yup. This was a conscious choice we made in Flutter to give you control over your animations (in contrast to web and iOS at the time).
Fun fact: the creator of CoreAnimation is one of the creators of SwiftUI! The decision to run animations in the app process rather than the render server (as CoreAnimation does) was one of the earliest and most fundamental decisions we made when designing SwiftUI. Some of the most distinctive experiences of using an iPhone, like UIScrollView rubber banding and SpringBoard app switching are only possible as client-side animations. But these experiences aren’t easy to build with UIKit! This is because if you want a UI to be fully interactive and interruptible by the user while it’s animating, it has to be running in the same process as the event handling. In fact, in iOS 18 we added new APIs to AppKit and UIKit to adopt the SwiftUI client-side animation model. There are a lot of valid critiques of SwiftUI. The fact that SwiftUI doesn’t use CoreAnimation for its animations is not one of them.

I wonder what the odds are that AI heralds the dominance of something like Flutter going forward. Some reasoning: - React Native perf issues/not AOT. See Shopify - I’d argue there’s more value in a single codebase with AI. Fewer tokens, easier for humans when/if they need to look under the hood. More leverage against all the various tooling - easier than ever to make beautiful, app-specific designs - the physical infra required for native Apple stuff is a pain to build out and maintain
We've been using our new Mac VM and iOS simulator to develop our forthcoming iOS app which we're launching soon. Dogfooding ftw.
