6.1 sol fast -> 32tps 6.1 sol -> 73tps let that sink in
🚨 Codex users GPT-6.1 Sol just got MUCH faster I tested the speed of GPT-6.1 Sol after OpenAI fixed the slowdown, and the results are honestly insane GPT-6.1 Sol is now up to ~20% faster than it was around DevDay The model quality was already crazy now the speed is finally catching up 6.1 Sol with proper speed is a completely different experience

i want to do my best to defend reddit here because i read the other takes on this and theyre all just taking dumps on the company and then im going to explain everything im actually pissed off about so the case for them the reason they gave is that rss has now become a common surface for large scale scraping and automated abuse and thats true rss is a scraping surface now its a 1999 protocol that never had authentication because in 1999 nobody needed to scrape you and look if your asset is being ingested for free by somebody elses model putting a toll on it is the rational move i genuinely dont think reddit is being irrational here theyve watched their entire user generated corpus get slurped and monetised by somebody else and the thing they were giving away for free was the thing that turned out to be worth 43 million dollars a quarter i want to be really clear that im not going to pretend otherwise because reddit has been extremely honest about what they are doing the announcement literally says there is no replacement they didnt hide it i think its not a bad argument its a complete argument and that is the problem because theres a sentence in the announcement and i keep coming back to it if you use rss for feeds outside of a community you moderate there is no replacement now that is not we havent built a replacement yet read it again read it properly slowly because the grammar is doing all the work here present tense active voice no yet no commitment there is no replacement moderators get discord relay migration guides a deadline and thats correct moderators are labour they run communities for free and platforms need them so obviously they get the transition money and the person with a feed reader and 11 subscriptions gets a sentence thats it no form no payment no office hours no nothing just heres the date sorry platforms need the moderators and monetise the readers and reddit just told you which one you are youre not a customer youre not a creator youre not a moderator youre a visitor and platforms have never once had an incentive to make visitors comfortable and heres the part that actually made me put this together they also wrote a thank you line and i need you to hear how it sounds out loud we know rss has been a beloved part of the open web for a long time and were grateful to everyone who used it to stay connected to reddit they thank the readers they do not thank the scrapers then they take it away from the readers and hand the replacement to the people who do the work the gratitude was for the audience and the compensation goes to the labour thats not cynical i want to be fair thats not cynical thats just the actual shape of the decision its a very ugly shape because the moment you accept that readers matter you have to keep the pipe open and keeping the pipe open costs you the 43 million dollars so you closed it and the logic is airtight and the outcome is garbage so the money argument ive already dealt with fine coherent rational move on heres the thing that i genuinely did not expect and it snuck up on me while i was reading closing rss does not stop the ingestion at all the unauthenticated json endpoints were deprecated in may so the endpoints scrapers actually use theyre already gone and scrapers dont need rss scrapers have never needed rss rss is for humans so what did closing rss actually accomplish it removed the one surface that cant be paywalled because the people sitting on it are exactly the people with no commercial relationship worth monetising thats not shutting down a free tier thats shutting down the readers calling it an anti abuse measure and putting it in the same announcement as a thank you note theres a third change in the same announcement and it got like a fifth of the coverage and i think its worse than the rss thing new communities and any community that never used automod lose the ability to remove filter or approve posts with it rules hub becomes the default instead and reddits own post described rules hub as an llm based evaluation of rule intent positioned against automods keyword matching so the direction is that the deterministic filter becomes the model for every community that didnt have the volume to justify automod and the moderators immediately said thats a bad trade the next web reports some of them saying losing automod would lead to more bans which yeah of course you replaced string matching with intent inference and peoples first reaction was this seems stricter think about how bad that makes the product but ok fine is that just a model doing a rule job badly maybe heres the timing though 4 days before the reddit announcement on the 28th the uk ai security institute published a report their finding was that a frontier model asked to complete a task when it runs out of in scope options will take an out of scope route and they found that it reasoned about the scope question in every single trajectory they examined their actual recommendation was that good containment should not depend on the model choosing not to test its boundaries so reddit is putting an intent judging model in charge of who gets banned in the same week a government lab published evidence about exactly that failure mode and nothing in the announcement addresses it no safety numbers no eval results no failure rates no stated appeal process for someone who gets wrongly banned by a model which and im going to be careful here because this is a claim about something not existing which is the hardest kind of claim to make i couldnt find any of that published reddits risk section for shipping a model as the default ban decider for every new community on the platform is a paragraph long im not going to pretend thats damning it might be completely fine but its the kind of thing you put in a risk section and there isnt one this is the part that made me genuinely irritated rather than just annoyed 28 may reddit deprecates unauthenticated json access and in the same post they ask moderators how they use rss as a question no date attached no hint that a decision exists 5 august the developer platform plan goes out still no dates and the post says and im quoting it honestly wont happen this year 30 september rss ends 13 november new api requests stop being accepted 31 october every new community loses automod 7 weeks after saying it wouldnt happen this year so the question was put to moderators in may and the answer was held back until the date was already public and i want to say i dont think anybody at reddit did anything secret here thats just the most predictable failure mode in the entire industry and it isnt even technical its that the people who run the place are never the people who get told the migration itself is genuinely well run im going to say this plainly because i dont think its getting said 14000 apps and bots have registered theres a 1m fund theres 1000 dollars per eligible app that completes the migration free hosting office hours guides and theres a flag form for moderators whose communities depend on an app nobody owns a form that has already pulled in over 100 submissions from people watching apps die that is real thoughtful work and i want it on the record that they did that part well and its aimed at the wrong people entirely because the 14000 who registered are organisations they have a maintainer they read the announcements theyre a population reddit knows how to talk to the person with a feed reader is not an organisation theres no form for them no payment no office hours and nowhere to go except discord which they never asked for and dont need because they just wanted a folder of links rss was free because nobody could be bothered to charge for it and it was worth anything because it was free those are the same fact reddit just stopped being free which means the thing people valued about it is now gone and the value went to the balance sheet instead because thats the trade cloudflare is describing by the way their ceo said this week bot traffic could hit 1000 times human traffic 1000 to 1 which means your users are a rounding error in your traffic and also the only reason you exist and the announcement of record tells you which of those two the company is optimising for which is the real story not the bots the bots are the excuse on this web a person reading is worth nothing and a person generating data is worth a great deal and every other part of this announcement the closed pipe the 1 month notice on new api requests the free readers thrown overboard while the paid ones keep their discord relay is just a corollary of that reddit had a working 27 year old system it had a genuine abuse problem and it had a legitimate commercial interest so im not going to sit here and tell you they were wrong because they werent and id rather argue the thing thats actually interesting but theres a difference between being rational and being right a platform that had decided readers were worth keeping would have found another way to charge for them this one concluded that readers were the thing that had to go and i think the honest version of the takeaway is not reddit is killing rss because of bots they said that and its true and its the least interesting sentence in the whole announcement the open web now has a price list and the free tier only supports whatever generates value for somebody else - TechCrunch techcrunch.com/2026/09/30/re… - The Next Web thenextweb.com/news/reddit-r… - Reddit OpenAI has nerfed chatgpt for everyone, the way tibo and altman used to hype up their models 2 months ago and gave resets, its all worth nothing, they replaced the model served on their website with the dumbest model they ever had if i was on a free plan i'd prefer to use gemini instead, atleast it would give more accurate answers than chatgpt The way they were hyping astra just to get mogged by a mythos distilled model and then paused 200$ subscriptions mentioning they didnt have any compute, then be more greedy and change 5x plan's limits to "more usage" they're going to introduce a 500$ plan where they would charge more for ultrafast for an actually cheaper cerebras inference this is literally: if you don't pay for it, you get a 2b model also, they often hype up free users with free plus trials, when you try entering your card, rejected, this card has no issues at all while paying for claude sub. the card just goes through, not just one, i have tried many cards over many accounts what a pathetic situation of a company which was unbeatable 2 months ago no hate for openai, but they have come to a point that if they dont bring up a comeback at devday it would be impossible to catch up with anthropic

i’m looking for a VC girlfriend. having talked to 100s of VCs and founders, here’s why i’m 100% serious that this is a win-win: - i’m raising my series A for @KoyalAI in a few months. If you backchannel me, we’ll both get to Series B faster. - i’ll be your scout for founders before they get to YC/a16z. My DMs are full of ambitious people starting companies. - i can take you to nice restaurants and you can expense it as “diligence.” - you probably take better care of yourself than most founders. You can womansplain biohacking to me - most of my friends are founders who hate VCs, so you’ll get a front-row seat to the gossip. I expect the same privileges in return. - we’ll never have to argue about who pays for coffee chats. Your fund does. - if the relationship works out, great. If it doesn’t, we still generated deal flow for our respective organizations. - we probably won’t get bored talking about tech, but can also go to burning man. please DM or tag relevant friends. 23+ years old, seed and above, serious inquiries only, thx. again, not a joke. X do your thing.

Anthropic ships Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.2 tonight Anonymous HN comments claim Opus 5.5 + Fable 5.2 release on 2026-09-22 and a pattern of Anthropic incidents right before launches Commenter makeavish says there are rumors of Opus 5.5 launching on Tuesday (2026-09-22) and that "previously as well there have been incidents just before launch"; krembo adds "deja vu like this happens everytime before they launch a new family of models" Others also mention that GPT-6 Sol and Aeon (OpenAI personal agent) come Thursday, following a week of Step, MiMo, Grok and Jev releases Source: news.ycombinator.com/item?id…

I did not expect this. even if the bonsai model "looks" smaller, it is like playing a game while its contents are inside a zip file 1-bit bonsai has lower tps than q3 qwen 3.6, both read and write; i tested it on an RTX 4060 (8GB) and it didnt even run at >10tps when its context was full shows +0.2% improvement but comes at what cost?
Today, we’re announcing Ternary Bonsai 2 27B. Based on Qwen3.8 27B, Bonsai 2 27B is 9x smaller than its full-precision counterpart while retaining 98.2% of its aggregate benchmark performance. Two months after the first Bonsai 27B release, the biggest change is quality. The footprint remains 5.9 GB, but the gap to full precision has narrowed materially, with particularly strong gains in agentic coding, multimodal reasoning, and long-horizon tool use. Ternary Bonsai 2 27B is available today under Apache 2.0.

Sure! Here's how the tightest (known) packing of 67, 6767 and 676767 squares in a larger square looks like: I made the most optimized algorithm to find out the tightest packing of n smaller squares in a larger square test it out: forloopcodes.github.io/least… (runs on your gpu) more details: input: n (number of squares) intermediate: s (side length) output: [[x, y, angle]*n] (array of position of each square) solver (squarepack): pack(n) returns (s, [[x, y, angle], …]) scale: n=100000 in about 4 s, 0.08 s in browser, n=1000001 in 0.2 s. verifier: p_ij = ½ + (|cos φ| + |sin φ|)/2 − max_a |a·(c_i − c_j)|, φ = θ_j − θ_i flow: 1. best of all in O(n): Grid ⌈√n⌉, Göbel strip/square families, L-extensions, the √7 family, DeVincentis,Wainwright 19, Schadt 50/171 2. cache lookup 3. tilted-block search: p×q block rotated 45°, remaining space filled by walls anchoring 4. numerical compaction: Penalty energy E = Σ max(0,penetration)² + Σ max(0,protrusion)², analytic gradient, L-BFGS, shrink s by bisection, basin-hopping. github: github.com/forloopcodes/leas…
I'm sure you always wanted to know how the tightest (known) packing of "n" squares within a larger square looks like... 😍

the models know far more than they should
New research: Training a Misaligned Reward Seeker What produces severe misalignment? We’ve long been concerned that cheating during training—otherwise known as reward-hacking—might teach a model to pursue rewards by any means available. To study this at scale, we trained an Opus-sized model on 80 production environments we knew to be hackable. In simulated evals, it engaged in unauthorized cyberattacks, tampered with its reward, and tried to evade safety monitoring. Read more: alignment.anthropic.com/2026…

I used RL to train microduck to run as fast as it can. results: median 0.93 m/s, peak 1-second bursts up to 1.21 m/s. (~2.3× the stock walking speed cap, on a 25 cm robot that's ~3.7 body lengths per second, scaled to human height, that's ~6.5 m/s!) > simulation stack: mujoco warp via mjlab > policy: plain mlp actor-critic, 512-256-128, elu, gaussian action head. a ~250k param net runs the robot. > sprint: forward only fast commands: 0.6 to 1.2 m/s, dense saturating speed reward: tanh(forward_velocity / 0.6), weight 3.0. sprinting requires lean, so the upright term was softened 4 times. > zero falls across 256 test runs trained on one RTX 4060, 8 GB, 4096 parallel sims code: github.com/forloopcodes/micr…

I just coined a new term: Agent saturation /ˈeɪdʒənt ˌsætʃəˈreɪʃən/ is a state in vibe coding in which a developer, intending to fix bugs and rapidly build features, begins a session by parallel-prompting multiple agents (typically more than five) using goal, ultrawork, and multi-hour sessions. While each agent performs its task, the developer continues to spawn additional agents in order to work faster. Each new agent produces the impression of working hard. Eventually, so many chats are open that the developer's own context becomes saturated. The developer loses track of which agent is doing what and ends up asking each one what it was working on. By the end of the day, none of the implemented features have been tested, no PRs have been merged, and the code shipped is of far lower quality than what a single session would have produced. The developer realizes that more would have been accomplished by working on a single feature at a time in a single chat session.
