Kind of wild that OpenAI is straight up in a compute crisis, going as far as shutting down signups for $200 accounts, yet somehow Maria and I are blamed for everything
Thanks to @maria_rcks and @theo, all your Codex threads stop running when you hit your usage limit Thanks both!

Also worth noting that it STILL lets you keep going after your limit is hit in many cases. Not gonna lie, people being outraged about this has become a very useful IQ test. x.lingyaoai.com/eduardadotai/status/21…

Maybe, but the fact is that both of you abused their goodwill for clicks, with zero shame or self-reflection.

I am a journalist. It's my job to report on things that I observe. I reported on the behavior that I observed. Maria is a builder. She built a thing that was useful to her and shared it. After reflecting on it she decided it shouldn't be up, deleted it, and apologized. I would recommend that you do some self-reflection, because you have been harassing both of us for weeks now over a thing that had nothing to do with us :)

if you say so, i believe you that they didn’t stop this feature completely or in every case. but a lot of people said it now stops immediately for them, and for me it does too, every single time. anyway, the problem isn’t trying things out or doing fun little experiments. that’s generally cool, and i’m not gonna cry “pls don’t exploit this poor little trillion dollar company with near infinite money.” but in this case they’d already shown some very appreciated goodwill with this feature, and ruining it for everyone else with that kind of smugness is kinda lame, because that’s basically what happened. and then, even worse, fiercely attacking anyone who said this was an exploit and shouldn’t be abused, acting like they were absolute idiots, even though that was literally your own wording before, and doing basically 0 reflection after the criticism. i’m obviously not talking about threats or insane insults. nobody should do that shit to you or her, you did nothing remotely deserving that. but why get so triggered, shoot back, borderline insult people for saying it’s abuse, then the second an openai guy says the exact same thing you immediately apologize and even suggest banning everyone who used YOUR tool? and even now you still seem to think you did nothing wrong, it was all perfectly reasonable, and everyone criticizing it was basically an idiot. if that’s true, why apologize to the openai guy while getting aggressive with everyone else who said the same thing?

It might be different reasons too? More lower end subs, more ”customers“ and aka higher company valuation? But yeah it do sound like the compute is restrained.

Classic Theo. But hopefully you can reset our rate limits. This does call for a limit reset

I think criticism of you and Maria is at unhealthy levels. This was known and abused long before either of you said anything. But that doesn’t mean zero blame. Maria should’ve known better than to productise and amplify the abuse given the reach she has.

Oh they are also canceling users accounts without warning (zero emails). That was my birthday present. I also signed up for a new 100$ account, and because my free account (I was downgraded) was wasted, I'm without codex for 1 more week. So sorry you paid but... 0 usage.

i mean Theo it literally did happen on the same exact day that saga unfolded. mine used to run for hours till task was finished, now all my threads on multiple machines stop exactly at the same time when usage runs out. im always an ally when it comes to people blaming you for drama, and maria did realize that its probably a bad idea, and apologized but Marias stunt is for sure to blame. you were not the first to report on this, this was a known thing, people were talking about it on X and i have seen tibo comment on others threads many times regarding this trick with smiley faces and things that basically mean enjoy and not only here, i have seen tibo mention it slack, discord etc his reaction was different when reacting to what maria built, and literally that night it changed. also i would like to mention that you are a big champion for users worldwide, and your championing and pressuring of labs has probably generated more value for users to cover for this one. also i dont really care cause i have many accounts. sometimes i purchase a $80 reset when i have 5% left cause i have to leave the house and dont want it to stop working lol
