🔍🚨NEW from @nytimes: Agency Diverted $1.4 Billion in Science Funds Mandated by Congress
“It’s a dramatic attack on the science enterprise that has served us very well since World War II." -RM @RepZoeLofgrennytimes.com/2026/10/02/us/po…
I led a bipartisan effort to stop the administration from politicizing lifesaving medical research grants and I’m glad they finally reversed course.
We cannot allow partisan politics to stand between groundbreaking research and the patients whose lives depend on it.

More than 7,000 Rhode Islanders are diagnosed with cancer each year.
That’s why we need to keep pushing toward earlier detection, better treatment & a cure.
Shared how I’m fighting to protect research, support patients, and help caregivers at the @ACSCANRI#ResearchBreakfast.
Today, I introduced the bipartisan Protecting Kids from Human-Like Chatbots Act to make sure AI chatbots interacting with children are explicitly designed to act as a tool, not a substitute for human relationships.
My bill would stop chatbots from pretending to be human, manipulating kids into staying online, or encouraging emotional attachments. It also keeps parents in control of these safeguards.
I’m proud to have bipartisan support from @RepMikeKennedy, @DorisMatsui, and @RepMMM, along with a broad coalition of organizations working to protect kids online.

TIME: So what is the hoax of AI? Who's behind it?
TRUMP: The whole country is based on fake stuff because these people have Trump derangement syndrome.
Oregon can lead the nation in biotech.
We showed the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology what that looks like at Twist Bioscience and at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus.
Making these technologies at home means a stronger economy and a safer country.

So great to join American business leaders as part of our bipartisan delegation to India to discuss just how important the CHIPS Act I passed into law is for Michigan.
Whether in DC or on the other side of the world, I’m always fighting for Michigan and standing up for our manufacturing workers and businesses.
AMCHAM hosted an interaction with a U.S. House of Representatives Congressional delegation with Chairman Brian Mast of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Haley Stevens, Representative Shri Thanedar, Representative Jimmy Patronis, and Representative James Gallagher, and U.S. semiconductor companies operating in India. The discussion centered on deepening the U.S.-India strategic and economic partnership. While the U.S. is home to the mature semiconductor and AI technology stack, India holds market scale and manufacturing and design capacity, hence the conversation explored how to translate this complementarity into action and two-way investment.

Biotechnology is not some distant future. It is here, and the countries that set the standards will lead it. At @axios Live, I joined @caitlinnowens to discuss why AI needs trusted biological data and how my bipartisan SCALE Biology Act can move breakthroughs from the lab to patients.
I also toured an exhibit celebrating 50 years of Genentech innovation and the breakthroughs that have transformed patients’ lives.

While we discuss how to tackle AI superintelligence, we also have to address how it’s changing the way our kids learn, how we work, and how we interact with technology. That means we need to ask the hard questions now: Do we understand the safety risks? How should AI be used in the classroom? And what happens as AI changes the workforce?
That’s why I joined @Elex_Michaelson on @CNNTheStoryIs to talk about the questions Congress needs to tackle as AI continues to advance.
I commend @theNASEM on updating "On Being a Scientist: A Guide to the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research."
This report serves as vital resource for early-career researchers trying to navigate the scientific landscape while adhering to the expectations of Congress.
Scientists need to be able to conduct research without political interference. Trump's policy to defund and restrict emerging bioscience leaves us less prepared to confront the next public health crisis and is driving researchers to other countries.
Zap strongly supports the bipartisan American Leadership in Fusion Act, introduced in Congress today by @RepZoeLofgren and @JayObernolte. If enacted, the bill would inject $10B of invaluable investment to U.S. fusion efforts, helping to ensure America remains the leader in fusion energy's commercialization as competitive efforts abroad threaten to overtake us.
This flag in Zap's production hall is a reminder that we are, and have always been, a nation of builders and innovators. Legislation like this ensures we will keep building as fast as possible toward a society powered by #fusion.
Today, Ranking Member @RepZoeLofgren and Research and Technology Subcommittee Chairman @JayObernolte introduced the American Leadership in Fusion Act!
This critical bill would accelerate the commercialization of fusion energy.⚛️

Fusion has reached a critical stage: scientific progress is accelerating, but commercial deployment will require new test facilities, stronger public-private partnerships, secure supply chains, and a skilled workforce.
The American Leadership in Fusion Act would help build that foundation and position the United States to lead in a technology with major implications for energy security, industrial competitiveness, and our competition with China.
Proud that the SCSP Action Program supports this bipartisan bill. Thank you @RepZoeLofgren, @JayObernolte, @RepDonBeyer, @RepLoriTrahan, and @RepGallagherCA1 for your leadership.
